Last weekend I went to Carthage Missouri for my wife's cousin's wedding. After the reception dinner/dance, I had to drive a truck belonging to another of my wife's cousins to his house becuase he was highly inebriated. I was following my wife's mom to this guy's house, and she missed a turn and got lost. We turned off on to a county lane and as I pulled into a random driveway to turn around my headlights fell upon the un-mistakable tail-lights of an RX-5. I went back the next morning to take these pictures:




I really couldn't believe I just randomly found this thing by total accident. I has current registration and looks to be a daily driver, being at the end of the driveway. By chance, is the owner on this forum? I did not try to knock on the door or anything as I didn't know what I would say..."Hey I love Mazdas! OMG you have a Cosmo!!!"

I can't help but wonder if the owner is an enthusiast or someone who chanced on to the car and doesn't really know what they've got. It looks to be in good-ish shape, with the original mail slot exhaust.

Do you care to share where this was at in Carthage (PM only for the guy's privacy if you will share)? I've lived here all my life and I've never seen an RX5 mililng about.

There is a good old school rotary shop around here that has the 110 Cosmo and a really nice SA. There are lots of rotary powered cars around here.

I know the "Rotary Doctor", Kyle Seaman, lives in Neosho Missouri. He has had a few old school rotaries.

 

That's 26 miles north of where this car is. Maybe the Rx-5 guy works there or something.

 

I would wager that is Kyles old car(he stated off hand at ane auto x that he sold his 5 to someone in carthage years ago), and Id say the owner knows what he has if they got it from him. I have seen that car in Springfield before and left a note with this site, a local site and my number offering to buy it if they ever wanted to sell it.
You should have just gone and nocked, you were already in there driveway taking pictures of there car.

 

That is just like my car. You should have knocked and said exactly what you suggested. I've had people follow me home and say just that. We talked for an hour they got to see all my other cars and sometimes went home with parts they needed for their own cars.

 

I think I would have knocked if I'd been by myself, but I was with my wife and her parents. We were already on our way out of town and I guess I didn't want to delay things any more than I had by asking them to take me out of the way to find this car again so I could take pics of it.

74 RX4, your Rx-5 looks pretty sweet. Where did you find those aftermarket wheels in a 4x120mm bolt pattern? Did they come with the car?
