Saab Sonett III Rotary

What do you guys think about swapping a rotary into one of these babies. The car came with a V4 so the rotary should fit nicely. Rear wheel drive and weighs 1800 pounds.

This is more of a abstract future thought than any immediate plans. I currently have an extra GSL-SE engine and trans that I would rebuild and probably carb.

Your right about the front wheel drive. I always thought they were rear wheel. Ok. I've changed my mind. I'll just drop the motor in a VW Beetle. Make a street wheelstander.

aww man F*** That, we dont need another Hurbie the Rotobug, its been dones... A sonnett would be a nice change of pace.

though it would be MUCH more of a challenge, first its FWD and secondly its IMPOSSIABLE to find them or parts... Hat is off to you if you do it

Actually, what would be really nice is a Porsche 912. Basically a 911 with 4 cylinder from the factory. The bodies can be found decently cheap and you basically have a Porsche body and suspension with a much more sophisticated rotary motor.

My friends bored 1600cc Super bettle skims the front wheels across the ground. It can take a z28 camaro like it was nothing. He figured around 130hp with all the mods he has, I couldn't imagine how fast it would be with a 200-300hp 13bt in it.

Also I don't know much about 912's, but 914's are pieces of crap (another sout out rotary canidate). They are tiny yet weigh more than an FC

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the 914s, though they are mid-engine which helps a little. The 912 is basically identical to a 911 except for the engine so basically it would be a 1970's 911 with a rotary. Better looks and handling than the bug.

The Sonnet would take mucho work, but converting it to rwd and installing a stock TII engine with the basic upgrades, yielding 230-240 hp, it would be a screamer. Very interesting car, can't say I have ever seen one of those.
