Actually, each rotor typically breathes through one port PER IRON, for a total of 2 inlet ports and one exhaust port for each rotor. This is true on old NA engines, and all turbo engines. In the mid-80s, the NA engines got an extra pair of ports added to the front and rear irons, such that each endplate had two ports, and the intermediate had one per rotor, for a total of 3 intake, 1 exhaust.
The RENESIS went on to move the exhaust ports from the rotor housings to the irons, which is a totally different geometry. Now the intake and exhaust ports look similar to each other, and the housings no longer move any air at all. Now the RENESIS breathes through 3 inlet ports and 2 exhaust ports per rotor, for a total of.... wait for it......
10 ports altogether, from a 1.3L 2-rotor.
