How much is a mint Rx4 wagon worth? I am trying to get my car valued via my insurance company and they are saying they cant find any sales historical data. As far as I know this car is extremely rare so im not surprised there haven't been any market sales.
I put a value of 20k which I believe is fair and probably lower than what it would go for at auction to a collector.
They are saying the only classic guide websites they can find with a value is saying $3100 which is completely ludicrous.
I know it would just be hear say but I wanted to get some experienced users opinion on this. How much you think cars worth?
I was in a similar situation with my insurance company (Farmer's) & my 74 REPU. Ultimately, since I couldn't find comparables, they insured the car for what I paid for it through Haggerty Insurance once I showed them the Bill of Sale. I paid about 8K less than what the truck is worth in the US, and way less than what it's worth to a buyer in Australia or New Zealand. If you can get a licensed appraiser to appraise it they will insure it for that amount, but the appraiser might have the same problem finding comparables like you did. Your wagon is beautiful though. What state are you located in, if you don't mind me asking? I'm in California.

Thank you for your input mark. Pretty much the same deal they are asking for bill of sale. So I guess I’m okay with insuring what I paid for it. Even though it’s less than market value I’m sure. Wish I could get a rotary expert to chime in on the phone with the insurance agent like in pawn stars lmao. I’m in NJ unfortunately lol. Have friends in CA. How’s the old school rotary scene out there? You ever see any ?
thanks but already looked through that no past sales of rx4 unfortunately.

yeah but how did they agree to something they can’t prove ? I can say my cars worth 1 million dollars and they still need evidence of that . How did you show them it’s worth that much ? Do u have 30k under the hood with receipts?
We’ll I just figured out how he got a 40k evaluation . Hagerty doesn’t even talk to you in the phone or ask for proof of value . You fill out the application and you get accepted lmaoo . That’s sketchy considering other companies ask you all this **** and are super strict . Also thanks Tom that is a good find.
It's not sketchy. They don't actually care how much it's worth; they care how much you are willing to pay to protect it, and how careful they think you will be. Actual value is irrelevant.

Yeah maybe sketchy wasn't the right word. But I respect that they do that and aren't as strict as the others. Even if the other companies are way cheaper.

You tell them the value and your premium is adjusted to the value you say

I've been out of the Rotary scene for awhile now that I'm retired and in my mid 50's (I'm just more selective about how I spend my time), so I'm kind of out of touch in that department. I know LA still has a presence with Vintage Motor Union and some other annual meet ups like, JCCS (Japanese Classic Car Show) and 7stock. Covid kind of put a damper on things for awhile too. In general though, it seems like the numbers have fallen off which I attribute to more of the age of the vehicles and what's available in the area of donor cars, replacement parts etc. Also many of the cars have gone overseas where they are paying top dollar for them and where there seems to be more mechanical support and restoration services infrastructure. ( This is what i found in Nor Cal. I actually think i saw this truck at the JCCS once, circa 2019.
Others may disagree, that's just my 2 cents.)
I've never seen one of these wagons for sale in person. Still, after poking around on the internet and talking with other classic car enthusiasts, it seems like there are a few things you should know if you want to buy one. What makes these cars expensive and rare? I found out on https://www.jdmbuysell.com/for-sale/honda/beat/ that the Rx4 wagon was only sold in the United States for one year. It was also sold in Canada (where it's called the Savanna), but there were only about 2,200 of them produced.

Thank you for this information. This makes me feel really good about my purchase!
