RX3 fuel tank leak on hard rights

Is it just my car or is there an issue with the gas filler leaking when you make right hand turns in an RX3s? The spill issue was apparently present before I got the car based on the condition of the paint below the filler and the fact that the fuel door was missing. I put a new sealed cap on it, but it didn't help. I installed a flapper from the 1st gen rx7, but it didn't helpeither. Is there a simple solution or do I need to get out my welder and relocate the filler to the C-pillar? That could look cool, especially if I used one of those polished racing fuel doors.

the gas would have a long way to travel to leak out. i'm not sure how thats possible. i guess it would depend on the degree of turn you made. i'm not sure how that's happening. with a denent flapper did it slow it down at all? are you sure you dont have a leeak on the top of the tank? how's the surface where the gas cap meets the filler tube? i it bent or corroded any?

It may be that 33 years of fillups bent the filler area and the cap can't seat right. Am I the only one with this problem?

my Celica had the same problem. I replaced the gasket around the filler neck for a tighter seal. Helped a little. But it still liked to leak fuel.

its too bad i cant think of a way to pressurize the tank without pulling it. if you can or you pull the tank, pressurize it and listen for the air leak and you will know for sure where the gas is spilling out.
