RX2 Tail Light Question

I'm from New Zealand building an RX2 sedan. Our versions came with amber outside tail lights, with the red/clear inner tail lights.

I've bought some US spec tail lights where as you know the outside tail lights are red.

Just wiring these up and wondering how they should light up. With the brakes on, do both inner and outer tail lights light up? Or only the inside tail light, with the outside only triggered by the signal/indicator switch?

Cheers mate. I thought that might be the case, as that's how American tail lights operate on other cars right, but just wanted to be sure Mazda didn't try to do something odd on the old rotaries
