Rx2 Brakes

About to do the brakes and had some questions.

How hard is it to change over from the stock solid disc to say...'81 vented rotors and calipers?

For the rear brakes, will the Rx7 drums bolt right on?

I don't know about your best option for front brakes, but one of the forum sponsors, ReSpeed sells brackets to put 81-85 GSL rear calipers and solid discs on the RX-2 axle. It'll all bolt on.

It's a pain in the *** for the front. You have to switch out the spindles in front for it to work correctly.

Ask me how I know.

Well, I tried to switch out the entire rotor and caliper. You may be able to get away with just using the caliper. However, this may be too wide for the stock rx2 caliper. This, I do not know.

When using the rx 7 caliper, it is set at a different angle, so it does not line up correctly. I tried using the dust shields from an rx7 but it still did not work. You will need to switch out the spindles in order for it to work correctly, or make a bracket. But, doing that is is a waste in my opinion. Too little gain for too much work. There is a reason you don't see rx2's with first gen brakes. If you are going to go through all the hassle, might as well do all the mods for a second gen kit to work.

On my current conversion, I am going with a kit from the racing store. 12inch discs, 5 X 114.3 bolt pattern, for less than anything from aussie land.

Do they make a kit for Rx2's, I don't see one listed. Just a 10" TII style kit will work fine for me.

theracingstore.com is where I saw the Rx3 kit...but nothing for the 2...by the looks of it, I'm sure they can make it. It looks about $799...not that much cheaper than Aus, but cheaper on shipping!

I talked to the owner, and he said he is not making the 12inch ones anymore, but would do a one off custom kit for me. I am sure he would willing to make a couple of sets. ****, if we could get enough interest, maybe five sets, he would be willing to do a group by for us.

Doc Holiday on the forum is using a set from them.

Also, the thing that is cool about these, is that they will allow you to change your bolt pattern. He provides you with a new billet hub, to your specified bolt pattern.

So anyone up for a group buy?

No lines, just calipers, hubs, and rotors. You can have the rotors cross drilled, slotted, or both.

You think we can get 5 people together?

Hmmm...5 people with Rx2's that would NEED the upgrade....maybe. Trainwreck is definately gunna need one, so that's 2...what would the price difference be between the 12" and the 10"? Will the 12" brakes clear a 15 " wheel?

As far as getting 5 people in, it can be any old school car, So any RX2, RX3, RX4, and even first gen RX7's. As far as clearance you would have to check. I think on the website it mentions that they clear a 15' wheel. The difference on the 10's, is that they are set up to drag race, and you have to get the cross drilled rotor. No other options are available. Either way, if we can get 5 people interested in any of the brake kits, I can give him a call and see what he can do.

Hey JC,

Would it be possible to put to different wheel patterns on the hub, say a 4x110 and a ford 5 bolt pattern? The reason I ask is that I'm very interested in the upgrade but I'm not ready to get a new diff as well and I really don't want to run 2 different kind of rims, God knows it took forever to find a set of Hayashi racing wheels in 4x110!
But I do forsee eventually getting a ford diff in the distant future, which is why I'd want both patterns... but don't know if it's possible to run a 4 & 5 bolt pattern on the same hub. Then again if the discount is worth while I might just bite the bullet. Thanks!

I have FD brakes on the front of my duece....check out the photos. The kit is expensive, but maybe less than the Assie kit + shipping. I have a fab guy that did these for me...stops on a dime!

Man, I want BRAKES! I'd be willing to get in on the group buy depending on price.. but I'm not so sure though. I been talking to Ryan and might have him hook me up with his Mechanic and do the 1st gen swap, with FC brakes. My car stops decenlty for now.. but the steering just feels a bit loose.. and I would like to get that taken care of first. Gets kinda scary driving over 90mph, and doing high speed cornering. Also trying to see if I could do a rack and pinion conversion.. but I'll see. And I just spent my tax return on toys for the FC so the Duce will have to wait.

Also 73IMPORT, I NEED TO CHECK OUT YOUR CAR!!!!! Looking good.

Well I did my brakes today...got a good deal on Axxis Ultimate Ceramic pads...got new rear drums and resurfaced my slotted solid rotors I already had. The rear shoes were ****** LIKE NEW after 2 YEARS!...gotta love the light weight of old rotas!

It stops again...now time to save for that big brake kit!
...or some new front inserts with longer springs for the coilovers.
