RX-7 Stalls in Summer!

85 RX-7 GS 12A Carb. Engine Approx. 110k miles.

Problem: My rx-7 has developed a 'summer only' problem that is about to drive me crazy! It must be heat related, but here is the scenario almost every time; Hot summer day, drive car fairly hard, stop for a quick stop (10 minutes or less) - get a drink or something - restart car and within 2 minutes car quits!! No warning, just stops. The car has to sit for at least 1 hour before it will restart. Restarts like nothing ever happened. It has happened at least a dozen times over the last 3 or 4 years and I have decided to fix it this summer. Took it to the dealer and they wanted to replace clutch!!!!! I may not know a lot about this car but I am not stupid! Never has stalled prior to making stop and shutting engine off for a few minutes. Very odd. No warnings, no lights, no buzzers, just quits. I suspect something controllling fuel or spark is the culprit. I have done all the simple stuff like filters, plugs, wires, caps, etc. but have not changed coils or fuel pump yet. Any suggestoins out there?

IT could be a minor case of over heating. your radiator could be defective or your water pump ain't putting out. It could very well be vapor lock. that happens with carbs alot. now on an 85 I don't know how to cure that but replacing your carb to something like a holly or a better carb could help with it but it really sounds like vapor lock from my end. it happens with my corvair the heat from the engine causes bubbles in the fuel line and the way I suggest is finding a way to cool the line.
