RX-2 leaves me stranded, miss SS8
Well I had planned on going to Sevenstock, would have been my first time. I was going to pickup a buddy in Chino Hills when my deuce shuts off on the freeway. My immediate reaction was that I ran out of gas since the gas guage doesn't work. But as I'm pushing the car off to the side I can hear the gas in the tank sloshing around. I tried starting it up again but no luck. I had the hazzards on but after 10 minutes they shut off. After about 20 minutes I call my buddy to cancel and then called AAA to have my car towed back home. I have the basic towing service to they charge me above the 7 miles which came out to 63 bux. Bummed out, I push the car back in the garage and think I'll look at it later. I don't look at it again until this afternoon. But the first thing on my mind was why the hazzards shut off so I check the fuse. Sure enough it blew. I look a couple of fuses down and the the one for the fuel pump and ignitor is also blown. I replaced the fuses and sure enough the car fires right up. WFT! That was one expensive fuse!
Anyway, anyone know what would cause that fuse to blow? Also a number of the other fuses look like they are ready to go (they're bowed). What would cause that? I don't want to just replace the fuse and call it a day. There must be something that caused it to blow and why are the others about ready to go?

I think the main fuse was already replaced since it doesn't look like the pix in the manual but I can't be certain. What does the FC fusebox look like?
I might just take you up on that checkup Wacky, you do house calls? haahaa! j/k

are there any write ups on converting to the FC fusebox. I have one around soemwhere and a shitload of fuses for them. I thought of doing that and getting that bracket from REspeed to hold the fuse block. got any pics of your wacky. also where is yours located. thanks Matt

You can either use a FC or the older 323's. The only difference between the two is that the 323's have less fuses than the FC. Also, the 323 is a direct bolt on. The FC is longer and due to the stock bracket's design, you have to either replace it OR do some tweaking. I will take pix later.

actually sounds like what happened to me on saturday. I pushed my 72 out to wahs it and after I proped the hood up and tryed to start it after it has sat for a couple weeks, and it sjsut wouldnt start, then it started to smoke right at the top of the starter where the power goes to. (very top of the motor) i thought great looked and nothing seemed to be wrong, tried twice more then cruised for an hour. it was great.

Fusebox Upgrade
Top is FC; short is 323
View of stock RX-2/RX-3 fusible link
1. Unplug the female terminal going to the stock fusible link and unbolt the 2 10mm on the 323/FC fusebox (1 on each side = kinda in and out).
2. Cut the end of the stock wire and crimp a ring terminal. Be sure to do this right as you dont want it to come loose. (For peace of mind, I always heat-shrink the ends and slightly tug on it prior to installation). This wire will bolt-on to the fusebox.
3. For the other side, grab a 10 gauge wire and crimp one end. One end will go to the other side of the 323/FC fusebox and to the battery's + terminal for the othe rend.
4. For accessories such as electric fan, radio/amp etc etc, I used a large female connector from autozone and made sure that its a tight fit.
5. I used a self-tapping screw to mount the 323/FC bracket to the strut tower like in the pix below.
I used a 10 gauge wire (scrap from a radio shop) since its "FREE". I used the 323 fusebox as there is no or slight tweaking required and I dont have many electrical stuff (electric fan and MSD 6A only). With the FC, you have to trim and mod the bracket but you can install many stuff.
I have done several old school RX and over a dozen FB/SA with no problem.

Well, while watching the tv show Trucks, the guy was working on an old army truck. Anyways got me thinking of thread, and I think the RX7 fuse would be the better choice. First you already are paying for it, so the cost shoudl be the same. Second your doing the work to install it so it wont take any extra time. Third, useing the larger RX7 fuse block you will have extra spots if you ever need them. Forth, even if you dont need the extra power spots, use them to store extra fuses. Just some thoughts i had.
