RX 2 hood question
OK, my thread about making glass hoods has been moved to the group buy section. My question is about the front edge of these hoods. Neither show any signs of being bent but the front edge is loose like I guess most end up. It seems to me the hood hinges may be the cause of this if the hood is opened to far. There is a little spacer that is about 1/8" thick right in the middle of the inside support structure. Both hoods have about a 1/4" gap between the spacer and the hood skin but I'm assuming they should be down on it or at least a little closer.
When I make the molds I don't want to have a perfectly wrong example to copy. I was going to find a way to hold the front edge down, probably weld it some how, if that is how it should be.

So an original is so rare nobody knows what they are supposed to look like!
I spent the day working on the hoods and I put 12 spot welds that filled the gap and keeps the skin off the underside structure. After looking at the structure about 1/8" to 1/4" gap looks about right so that is what I went with.

Under the front edge of the hood there is a small gap between the hood skin and the support structure underneath. The hoods are famous for lifting the skin off on the highway while the hinges and support structure stay down.
If everything is solid and new it looks like there are a few little dots made of either rubber or some kind of adhesive between the skin and structure that hold it in the right location. They seem to dry rot and then no longer hold and the wind lifts the hood skin to the point it lifts up a little bit permanently.
I just held the hood skin down close to the support and grew some metal bridges to hold it in place.

There is primitive NVH adhesive that maxda used. It has not passed the test of time. I used a 2 component NVH foam product from SEM to reattach my hood to the suports. I still have not addressed the stress fractures caused by this failure and time. I can post pics Sunday of my hood for comparison
