RX-2 and 616 Gauge Cluster Wiring Explained
I can't believe this has never been posted. (Maybe it has and I just can't use the search function ) But I have a '71 616 with a no frills cluster (speedo and fuel/temp gauges). I switched it over to an RX-2 cluster to get the tach and ammeter. So I thought I'd share the layout of the plug, since you can't just plug and play the cluster, you have to rearrange the pin layout on the plug.
RX-2 PLUG & CLUSTER
1- Green w/Black stripe=Left Turn Signal
2- Green w/White stripe=Right Turn Signal
3- Yellow w/White stripe=Water Temp Gauge
4- Yellow=Gas Gauge
5- Red w/Green stripe=Running/Headlights
6- BLANK
7- Yellow w/Red stripe=Oil Pressure Light
8- Green w/Yellow stripe=Accessory 12V (to power the gauge)
9- White w/Black stripe=High Beam
10- Red w/Black stripe=Brake Reservoir/E-brake Light
11- Black=Ground
12- Yellow w/Green stripe=Tachometer
*Ammeter is hooked up with two different wires that are not a part of the plug
616 PLUG & CLUSTER
1- Green w/White stripe=Right Turn Signal
2- White w/Black stripe=High Beam
3- Yellow w/Green stripe=Tachometer
4- Yellow w/White stripe=Water Temp Gauge
5- Yellow=Gas Gauge
6- Green w/Yellow stripe=Accessory 12V (to power the gauge)
7- BLANK
8- Red w/Black stripe=Brake Reservoir/E-brake Light
9- Yellow w/Red stripe=Oil Pressure Light
10- Red w/Green stripe=Running/Headlights
11- Black=Ground
12- Green w/Black stripe=Left Turn Signal
The rear of the RX-2 cluster has a seperate Green w/White stripe wire coming from one of the dummy lights and a solid green wire coming out the back of the tach.
The 616 cluster has a solid Green wire and a Green w/Black stripe wire also coming from the back of what looks like a relay (under he speedo). Does anyone know what these are for? I can add that info later on.
