Running rich.
Just wondering if you guys know the signs of running rich. I just got my car started recently (didn't drive it though) and my garage filled up with smoke and smelled like gas. I already know that my carb is not tuned properly, but does that seem like I'm running too rich or maybe something else could cause the smoke?? Oh yeah, I have underground parking in my condo, and my neighbors were pissed that it smelled like smoke, but they were more pissed that my car is fricken loud as hell...lol

a little more car history would help but here are a couple general items...
Black smoke - rich condition,
blue-oil,
white (hard to see difference but smells different than oil smoke),
the smell - if the gas has been in the tank for a while (more than a month is typically all it takes), then the aromatic qualities (it's ability to vaporize), have started to deminish, making it hard to start, and the fuel to burn unevenly, this also can cause the exhaust to smell badly (smells musty and eyes water after a while), even if the engine is apperently running ok... or another possibly, the floats have gained a little weight (fuel turns to tarnish and adds a coating to the insides of the carb fuel bowls as gas evaporates over time), causing the float level to be a little high...
the smoke is most likey from the seals trying to work themselves free from rust or carbon buildup or in a worst case, one or more oil control o-rings have broken from age... if enough oil has settled into the rotor housing and been pushed into the exhaust, it may smoke for a while even though the original source has stopped
these are just highlights and the most common I have encountered and by no means the only things

The car has been sitting for 2 years. It had no fuel in it when I got it, so I just put in about 2 gallons about 2 months ago. I was already planning on buying a weber carb setup from Rotaryshack. The smoke was more of a white/blue color, and yes it burned the hell out of my eyes. It smelled like fuel and something else that I can't figure out. It backfired also, when I turned the car off. Oh yeah, I just changed the oil and cleaned up some of the oil spots on the engine.

yeah, my cousin had the car before me, and he actually took care of all of that (tune up, new radiator, plugs, wires, changed the fuel tank). I never opened the motor up though, I was planning on a rebuild anyway (once I get some more $$).

there are a few things that you can do but it will hurt the performance. just be considerate to your neighbors. If this is not your daily driver, dont start up the car before 8AM and come home after 9PM. On weekends, I dont start my RX in the driveway and no air tools before 9AM.
