My donor car

update: wiring harnesses are a pain in the ***! about 50% of the wiring harness disconnected and routed. A/C and power steering units taken off. Only a few more items to take off then take out the engine/tranny and reinstall to the sammi. If it wasn't supposed to be 15 degrees and snowing sunday I might finish this thing.

ok everything is now ready! All is left is to pull the mock engine and tranny out of the samurai and pull the other out of the rx7. Should go pretty quick if I get a nice warm day to do it.

update time. Alot of progress and sorry no pics. My pics host hasn't been working for some reason. I got all the wiring hung and computer mounted. I relocated the battery to the rear to give me more room for the air intake to be relocated either inside the cab or snorkled to the outside, but for now I have the air intake mated to the intake manifold. With some slight modification have put the RX7 seats in the sammi. I put in my heater hoses today and am doing the oil cooler lines tomorrow.

Things that still need to be addressed:
still have to install the fuel pump and wiring
have to get a 79 rx7 radiator and install it
have to wire the rx7's ign wiring to the samurai's
finish mocking up the exhaust

I had a hared time getting the rad. to fit and keep the grill in the stock location on the sons and that was with the 12a. We ended up useing two fans for cooling on the trail.

what rad did you use, the 79? I plan on using two fans as well. I finished up the wiring today, it now turns over! The only thing I have left to do is finish hooking up the fuel pump lines and the power to the pump, fluids and hope for the best!

I used the rad, from a 85 with the 12a and auto tranny. Are you using the stock fuel pump? I ended up using an aftermarket one and a pressure regulator from a 10 gal. cell. We have some unique problems since we have to follow WErock rules for the comp. we do. We have a mild street port with all the carb. stuff done running the stock 5 speed transmission with the 6.5 T/C and toyota axles with 4.10 gears and 37" sticky tires. Yours is FI so it wont have some of the issues we have, but it is VERY fast compaired to the 1.3 sammi engine. The son out ran a sammi on 33's with the 2.0 engine. We took it to the dragstrip and even with the 37" tires it ran high 7's in the 80's in the 8th. We are running very little exhaust and it sounds like a pissed off weed eater going down the track.

UPDATE: so finished with fuel pump today and all the wiring. Tried to start it. No start. Check it and wasn't getting any fire. Called a friend and he helped me. Turns out I forgot to hook up my main relay. Tested it and had spark, tried to start it. No start. Put ether in and tried and IT STARTED for a sec. Tested fuel pressure turns out this pump is only pumping at 10psi. So much for a free pump. Hopefully this beast will run tomorrow!

A good generic fuel pump for EFI is from a 98 ford ranger. Alot of the sammi guys use them because you can attach them to the frame with a 1.6 16 vavle swap

Update: clutch setup didn't work, boo! Had to order a aftermarket clutch assembly should be here this week. Steering wheel hub came in and is now in as well as the coolant fans. They are mounted but still have to run wiring. Did button up the outside of the truck today. Had to modify part of it but its together and looks rather good. I have to order some jeep style hood latches for the hood.

rotary sammi just had its maiden offroad voyage with great sucess!!! except it blew a oil cooler line off, no worries though its fixed. Only taking it out a few minutes at a time until I know that all the kinks are worked out. God needs a exhaust though! Its enough to make your ears bleed at high rpms!
