RE List

Well, finally graduating college. Parents want to buy me a car. After weeks of explaining, begging, and convincing, I've got them to buy me an RE from a cosmo. Getting the 13B-RE. Need to compile a list of parts to put one in a FC. It's an 88 GXL. I've got the LT10S Microtech with wiring harness, but dont have the X4 ignition module. Going to get the motor, but don't know where to get it rebuilt at, or what extra services to get, like balancing and whatnot. Want to make it a single turbo setup to produce about 500RWHP. figure this way is easier than making a TII get that power. I'm trying to find out what else I'll need. Any help would be nice. I'll keep editing this post adding things to the list that you let me in on, and please provide links to an area to purchase, I'll compile a price list as well. Who knows, maybe this'll get stickied to keep all the pnubs from posting the same question over and over. lol.

P.S. I know of the list of prices from fc3s pro, but it doesn't seem complete enough to me.

Parts List

Engine core
Aftermarket ECU, like microtech

What things more specific?

I ain't going to put every single single-turbo combination prices on there...
I just put up a generic price for what most full turbos go for.
What else do you want?

Wow, Ted, please have a good day soon. Your recent posts had a overt "coating" of anger, instead of your usual pleasant satirical dry humour. No, I'm just saying I've never seen a retail turbo setup for under 3k, so your 1.5k estimate might be a bit off. Or I haven't looked hard enough. But I do know that I've looked under the typical tuner brand turbos, like garret and greddy and hks, so...

Just trying to get one full list with absolutely accurate prices, including shipping to the lonely state of Michigan. Then was going to do a full write up to help all those helpless beginning tuners out there.

P.S. I didn't mean any harm Ted, you're a great man with lots of good advice. Please give it nicely(ish) like the good old days. We miss you, man!

P.P.S. Can someone PM me about my old account? I can't seem to receive mail on my AOL accounts from the site anymore, so cannot recover my lost password.

How sophomoric. Do you really think somebody is going to hold your hand through this?

Let's say somebody tells you it costs 9,002.11 to build a 500 hp FC. You buy the same parts but it costs you 10,230.25 to get your car running. Now what? Did asking him really change anything?

There is absolutely no possible way to estimate exactly how much a project like this is going to cost. There will always be surprises and you alone will have to deal with those surprises when the present themselves.

Welcome to the world of high horsepower hot rods, are you ready?

P.S. You should ask a mod to move this thread to the 2nd gen section where you can be properly flamed and berated for asking how you should spend mommy and daddy's money.

tigerboy...

if we were on a bridge that was 25 feet above a big river... and I said jump in, the river is more then 40 feet deep here... would you jump in????

do you know how to work on a car? If not then just drop your car off at a shop and expect to spend 20k on just the under hood parts, custom fabrication and labor

If you do know how to work on a car, then I suggest educating yourself by reading the 2nd gen section... there is enough information in there make the leap

Fine, fine. When you're done with the flaming maybe we can have a proper discussion.

I know I'll need some things for this, I'm just looking for the list to contain what I'll need in a more than generic list with estimated prices. What size turbo and injectors would I need? Should I get an N-flow radiator? How do I figure my fuel tables out? Anyone have any sort of links to some sort of info to help me figure this stuff out? Remember, I'm aiming for 400-500bhp so that basic list is only a start...

The reason this thread is in this section is because 1.) it technically belongs in the "Other Rotary" section and 2.) I'm tired of people just spending their time flaming instead of actually helping so I thought I'd search out a better place for the thread, but it seems like this could be a futile search.

Part of the fun in building a car, at least for me, is researching all the possibilities. All the questions you have asked can be answered by searching this forum. If you're concerned about the cost of everything, I can tell you right now that $8-10k won't be nearly enough to take an 88 GXL and make a reliable 400-500hp FC out of it.

Don't take it as flaming, these people are just telling you to educate yourself. If you don't feel like doing that, then contact a rotary shop and tell them what your goals are, they'll be more than happy to help you out, provided you have the funds.

Wise words from an old guy: buy a used but good running 180hp 13b engine, put it in your car and enjoy driving it. Use the remaining money and invest it. After you're done with college, you a) are more mature, b) have learned a lot, and 3) will know for a fact if the horsepower bug is still around you. At that point at least you'll have a car and some savings instead of a car that never ran and no money. Seriously.

It's super easy to spend money.
It's not very difficult to make money.
It's the hardest to save money.

Talking Look on Ebay for a car that is already built

Save your money!!!!!!!!

There are a couple of decent cars on Ebay that are already setup with what your looking for. Some of them even have the Engine, Microtech configurations you described above.

Good Luck.
