Ugly??? In 1967/68 this was about the most advanced car you could buy! Both in terms of drivetrain (1.0l wankel, semi-automatic gearbox...) and mechanical parts (power steering, all-disc brakes) as in terms of design!
I have two Ro80's and can tell you they are very nice in real life. Both need to be restored though.
Should someone buy it, I have the leather seats in better condition
No really, these are great cars. It's a shame they never sold very well (only 37.000 in ten years!)

No: http://www.hurleyrotary.com/rensu.aspx

In the USA, it'll be a bit harder to find parts though... Overhere it's not that bad, with good clubs (the German Ro80 club has many parts) and a network of owners who know where you can get just the right part. Everything is getting a bit pricey though. Nevertheless, in Europe it's easier to get hold of Ro80 parts then old-school Mazda rotary parts. The only big advantage with Mazda parts is that quite a few parts are shared with non-rotary cars. But all the typical rotary engined parts are very hard to come by.
Personally I have been able to collect most of the important NSU parts (4 engines, 7 gearboxes, bodyparts, seals, gaskets... ) by now, which I did before even starting to restore. My car will also have new chrome (all still in original NSU bags), new head and taillights, new dash, ... So actually: yes you get the parts for that car and engine.

Those are FWD aren't they? With a transaxle layout much like a Saab.

They are very much like most Audi's, even those of today: transaxle, with the engine in front of the axle. And FWD. They have inboard brakes in the front too, mounted to the transaxle.
This lowers unsprung wheight, and gave Ro80's a very good ride quality. Nothing sportscar like of course, since there's too much wheight up front, but very stable (even in the wet or snow) esp. compared to those days cars.
