One more old Rotary back on the road
Finally got it started and it's a couple more hours from being road worthy. I need exhaust and some more tranny fluid and it should be good, oh and shims for the struts.. Not bad for a car left for dead and neglected for 16 years. It runs, and idles great. I can't believe how well built this car is. It's 10 times better constructed then my Toyotas.

Beautiful car, I like that metallic-orange. Are those Riverage wheels you've got up front? RX-4's are really tough looking cars, good job getting it back on the road

I think I'm going to end up keeping this one. I really like working on it. The wheels are Riverage's. Not many people know that. I think they look great on the car and I can't wait to swap out the rearend so I can put them on all four corners. It should be something special then. I'll keep this thread updated from here on out.
Any suggestions on exhaust? I was going to run 2 1/2 inch piping but don't know what to do about a resonator and muffler. Any advice would be great.
here's a couple more pic's.

One muffler is not going to cut it. Rotaries are freaking loud. For mufflers/resonators you shouldn't use glasspacks, and you should only use steel packed mufflers. Popular mufflers/resonators are pretty much anything by Magnaflow and the Borla XR-1s. I've used Dynomax Bullet race mufflers as resonators and they do an alright job, and they're pretty cheap, too. Are you going to be using the stock exhaust manifold or an aftermarket header? That makes a big difference in volume as well.

I'm running two 2 1/2" off the Road Race header into a magnaflow muffler. The local muffler shop installed it and did the pipe work. Its two 2 1/2" in and two 2 1/2" out. This is it on summit racing:

My 13b is an extreme street port and its not that loud. I live on a military base and I have no complaints about been to loud. But like any engine its all in what you have done and in the tuning.

For my REPU, where I have a lot of room underneath, I was thinking of putting four of these under the cab. After the road race header. Dual pipes with 2 of these in each pipe. Then collect b4 the axel, and into my big magnaflow muffler that is already installed.

Took a couple day time photos of the car just to have. I also picked up a carb and intake for it now so hopefully I can drive the SOB later this week. The old car would idle fine, but not drive.
I also might be selling this one pretty soon. I found a TE37 Corolla near me that is very very clean. I'd hate to see this car go, but the TE37 is my true love for old cars. If anyone might be intersted in the RX-4 hit me up.

I'm in Southern Cali, and I'm not sure what i want for it now. Make me an offer I guess. The wheels "DO NOT" go with the car. They are off the white car in the backround. I just put them on there because the 13's I have won't clear the brakes.

I wanted to make it, but the carb is shot on this one and I didn't get the new one in time. I guess I could rebuild the old one but I'm being lazy. I found a beautiful TE37 that I want to pick up, but I think it will sell before this one. It's pretty cheap and is almost perfect.

The car is now officially driveable!!!! I just need help with the exhaust system as far as finding the right components. I was thinking of the Racing Beat presilencer and muffler, but they are so damn expensive. Can I get away with two mufflers and still have it be pretty quiet? Anyw advice would be great.
Here are some more pictures of the car now.

I personally am pleased with the sound that my Rx4 makes. I set it up to be nice and quiet and pass emissions though. I don't know if you are looking for the same thing or not. I currently have a RB header, a cat, 2 glass packs (one right after the other) and an 80 Rx7 muffler. Needless to say, the car does not disturb the neighbors. The Rx7 muffler is the most restrictive part of the system. I only used it because I had it lying around. You may want to use something a little more agressive. That would give you a little more noise than what my car makes too.

I drove the car around the block yesterday. Man it was fun. It made so much noise my neighbors have to hate me. But it was worth it. The car made good power and didn't do anthing unexpected during the drive. So that's good news.
I am thinking about cutting the collector off the exhaust and running a split exhaust with 2 1/2 inch piping and the borla bullet mufflers as resonators then joining them just before the axle and finishing it off with a stainless borla or magnaflow muffler. Something like this.

nothing good. I ended up waiting all day on my brother because he was suppose to bring my welder to me and it ended up getting here at around 6pm. I forgot to call to tell you what was going on. By the way. Nice dyno slip on the Rx-3.
