New RX-8 pics
sorry if this has been posted before but I didn't see it anywhere.
rotarynews has some new pictures of the RX-8 in cold weather testing. I think it looks pretty mean with the front covered up how it is.

Ugh, it's still a four seater, but it somehow tickles my pickle. I can't wait 'till someone wrecks one and I get my hands on the engine and ECU. This car might also attract ricers away from the FD .

They weren't real 4 seaters though, were they? 2+2...?

Actually even base model 'stangs have huge PBR aluminum twin-pot calipers in the front (11" with tons of swept area) and decent sized discs in the rear. Mustangs haven't had rear drums since '93 sillyhead (no point in discs, really... there's not enough weight over the back for the rear brakes to do any good on those cars)
In fact, come to think of it, those front brakes look about the same as the Mustang brakes...

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I saw the latest version at the NY auto show. They went nuts with the rotor styling cues. There's rotors in the bumpers, seats, hood, ignition button, rear passenger console, etc
Also the one at the auto show had coilovers on it, I saw an adjustable spring perch through the wheel spokes. Those brakes do look pretty big too. Sounds good to me. How much are these supposed to weigh? 2800 lbs?
Only thing I don't like is that the seatback is a structural mounting point for the shoulder seat belt. That means that the seat better be damn strong...

I think the only reason the brakes look as big as they do is because those are the 16" wheels. I think if you got the optional 18" wheels, they wouldn't look so big.

Your sister does not have a '97 then! No mustangs were made with rear drum brakes after '93 - TRUST ME! If you want, call up Napa and ask for rear drums for your sister's car. They will tell you that they are not listed, because they do not exist! Believe me I've worked on every iteration of Mustang known to man, and no SN95 has rear drums.
Also I should have mentioned that the huge PBR brakes are only on the '99-up models. Sorry.

I think the 4 doors is more of the problem for some people than the 4 seats. 4 doors is pretty damn rare on a preformance oriented car. It just says "I carry people"
rather than "I go fast".
2 doors are also thought to be a more stiff/rigid body that handles better than a 4 door.
Sure, I'd like it much better if the rx-8 was a 2 door.

Actually 4 door cars are typically stiffer than 2 doors... the center post means smaller openings in the bodyshell.
As for 4-door performance cars... ever hear of a little ol' car called the WRX?

GT mustangs are still horriably under braked from the factory though. They have decent sized brakes, but nothing to write home about. The cobras on the other hand... now THOSE are brakes!
