Major major haang up right before going to the body shop on thursday.
So I am trying to source out some paper work for this car before I dump a boot load of cash into it and I am having severe problems. The car has washinton plates but washing has no record of them or the cars VIN. This car doesnt exist to them, so I called ICBC to see what the process is for re registering a car for a restoration.... they told me without boarder import papers I am SOL I have to get those papers.. I told the lady it probably wasnt imported but instead driven across back in 1980 and left here in Canada.
So here I am two days before going to the body shop and I cant own this car... I am at a loss for what to do..
Shouls I just send it to body and deal with the paperwork as time comes?

I don't think it would hurt, Buggy did something like this with his R100, but I don't think it was "imported". You can call and see what they have to say, won't cost you anything unless they draft something up for you.

Can they track down that VIN# here in Canada? If they can't track the VIN# at all, the origin of the car won't matter. All you would have to do then is get the VIN# verified by Mazda that the vehicle actually exists, and also get any other info about the vehicle that you can. Then get a lawyer to draw up an afidavit (that probably isn't spelled right) to basically say that you own the vehicle. That's what I was told to do to get the R100 transferred into my name. I don't have an ownership or any info for it either. If they can track the car to it's origin in the USA then I would say you will have to get some sort of import papers done up. Probably not a big deal either. I'd contact a lawyer and see what they have to say.

The Vin# no longer exists there is no record of it in Canada or the US...
I went and talked to a lawyer today and I am going to try to get this resolved but I dont know how much sucess I will have.
I dont want to have to part this car out.

Double Ds for me to share
don't part it out. You don't need papers to make it a 3/4 chassis drag car and take it to the track on weekends and race it.
If your not willing to cut the floor out of the car give me a shout and i will drive up and get it then i'll cut the floor out of the car, build a tube chassis for it and let marko build a 20B for it.

yes both the DMV and ICBC have no record of this existing and same thing with the plate number on the car.
Its all ok I had a lawyer look into everything and it will be a lengthy process but I can get the car in my name I just have to write a letter to ICBC stating how I came to have the car and what my plans are for it. They will reinstate the vin and give me ownership.
So now to the next task.. the windshield... I am going to imagine that I cannot just go to the glass shop and get a new window..... The worst part is that the windshield was perfect when I was given the car.. but towing it home rocks kicked up and put multiple big chips right in the drivers view..
Where do old schoolers get there windshield replaced?

I suggest you get those chips repaired befor cracks start asap... Then search for a replacment. It took me almost 2 years before i found a used one for my car. The coupe glass will only fit the coupe. The sedan and wagons are a little different in size.

yes they definatly are rare and I was very surprised when they guy i got it from pointed it out.
Working on this old car is night and day compared to my Jeep I have not come across any stupid plastic clips.. pretty much everything has a bolt or screw and there is so little plastic on these cars.

I totally get what you mean, even working on new-ish BMW's there are a lot more clip on things and plastic that can break. I was surprised when stripping my FC down how quality some of the parts are, the pedal box, suspension arms etc..

I was going to do both with the bumpers... paint them with chrome paint
lol I am going to have the dents removed and have them rechromed....
I have not come to a conclusion on a color so I am just going to have the car put in primer for now.... Still leaning towards a real dark metallic grey
