How can it be new when they stopped making this engine ages ago? Maybe it's never been run and is old stock, but it ain't new. I bet the seals and springs are stuck from the engine sitting for so long and who knows what else.

it was most likley a loeftover from the early 80's when Mazda was replacing a bunch of 12a's

The 72 RX2 Coupe i had, had a Reman put in in the early 80's. I found the paper work when i cleaned out the car. Dont have the car or paperwork to offer more info though. it may have the 3mm Carbon Apex seals in it though. and FYI the RX2 i had, sat for 5 years and ran like a champ with no smoking so i think there is something to be said about the older motors.

Wow what kind of rip off is that? Jeez. I'd rather spend $1200 and get a 91 J-Spec 13BT motor.

What's the use of a worn out 91 13bT if you happen to be restoring an early RX back to stock... where else are you going to find something new that was built back in 1972??

I thought about that but still think 1800 is too much. Plus, from experience the jspec motors that come "turn-key" aren't all that bad most of the time and last a good while to start. Inevitably they will need a rebuild but yea.

OK OK OK, first Kerebrus you should expect responses that aren't the nicest in the world you are posting in the old school section, I personally would rather have this engine at this price than a used JDM engine that someone has ragged out and I really don't have a good warranty on.

The engine really is worth 1800, to an extent, you have to understand what these engines are and where they come from.

I have one they are cool engines but they are very old and really need a rebuild before you use it. Everything on this engine is new, it also is not a US spec engine it is a 135hp JDM version but the carb linkage is setup for a LHD carb. These engines were originally from the MTCs years ago(Mazda Training Centers) when Mazda stopped building engines themselves they sold all this stuff off they come up for sale from time to time, this one obviously was sold to someone years back and was never used. For someone restoring a Rx2 or Rx3 this thing is priceless, you can't find these parts anymore and if you can it is all used stuff. Now can this engine be dropped in and fired up, yes it is possible but usually they need the rubbers inside replaced .

To his there own, I'd rather buy a 12a longblock do a full rebuild and use that. You're gonna spend $1900 + shipping. For that much I don't think I'd bite. I realize that this is an old school section and that has nothing to do with it, I love old school cars that's why I've been driving only first gen RX-7s since my first car. However, knowing that I could probably spend $2500 (including shipping) for a 12a street ported and rebuilt, I'd rather do that.

It's a bit like comparing why someone would pay $1000 (or more) for RX3 savanna taillights, against the cost of $20 for a first generation RX7 taillights. Makes sense - no - happens all the time - yes.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/1035165695.html

he could probably sit on that twin distributor engine for another 10 years... and then sell it for 4k...for a lot of people, its all about restoring your RX back to OE spec

soemone who cares about having an original equipment RX2 would be interseted in that.
Most dont recall but the RX2 when tuned was a sweet road race car, and won quite a few races.

Jeezus

I would be interested in the rx2 twin dizzy engines if they are NOS like the one on ebay otherwise I probably have enough of the other cores

I would be interested in a bunch of the engine parts esp off of the 74-5 12as even if the rotor housings are marginal I have to have that version for the restorations or the engines aren't right, let your buddy know that I am also interested in all of the original emmission crap off the engines as well cause most people just throw that crap away
