Need some help with my 76 Cosmo cold start and running.
Sup guys been on the forum for a while and I figured I'd start here 1st.
So today in Colorado Springs it started to snow and obviously the temp dropped really quick. I go out to start my car this morning and warm it up. Now this is my first real old school and by that I mean a carb'ed one so bare with me on this one.
I pulled the choke **** out and started it, walla one time start. So I just sat there waiting on the car to warm up. It runs fine at high idle around 3K with the choke cable still pulled out and the car running. After about 8 minutes the idle starts to drop steadily and it just dies on me

So I push the choke **** back in turned the car all the way off and waited for about 3 minutes. Then I proceeded to starting it again. (Now the day before I was running low on fuel and owning the car for less than 3 weeks. I wanted to see how low I could run it and see if the coolant/fuel light would turn on for low fuel). Luckily I didn't wait for that moment and I just parked it the day before with the intentions of fueling her up the next day.
So fast forward back to the car just idling down to were it just died on me. And I'm there in the cold waiting those 3 minutes to fire it back up. So by this time I'm wondering did I run out of fuel is it that cold were I need to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from dyeing on me.
I waited till I got off from work today. Went and got me a 5 gal jug with fresh fuel in it for my Cosmo. Poured all in the gas tank and the same procedure pulling out my choke **** and starting it up. Again it started right up no problems runs for like 5 min's then the same thing happens. The idle starts to slowly drop and it dies again.
Now guys what I’ am I doing wrong? Did I run through that 5 gallons of fuel that fast. Note it was around 28 degrees according to my wife's Jetta temp thing in her car.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I’ am in the process of obtaining a 1976 Mazda Cosmo Service Shop Repair Manual Oem from eBay, to help me out with normal operating procedures and stuff.
Regards Kelly
