Sorry Mel. I missed this post somehow ??

Thanks. I'm hoping for around 350hp. I'll probably weigh the car over the weekend....I think this thing stock was right at 3000 lbs. I guess thats a tank huh? On another note, I cant tell you how happy I am that this thing is smog exempt. Not as lucky with the 82 though...it's a trailer queen anyways

Since alternators differ, what if I measured to some other common point? If it doesn't rain today I'll measure the '78 wagon I'm working on.

Edit: How about from the spot welded seam on the firewall directly below and to the right of the hood latch, to the alternator bracket? That bracket should be pretty universal between your FD and the FC version I installed over here.

3000? The RX-4 wagon feels pretty light compared to a Cosmo or REPU.

Cool, sounds great. Thank you.
I agree, it does feel light. We'll see soon enough.

edit: I won't be going back to the shop until Saturday, I'll measure then.

I'll be damned... It just looked backwards to me because the crimped end of the filter is normally the out.

Nice fab work on the car! I like the anti swaybar!

Thanks fellas.

Heres the latest...the motor started up on the first try with no throttle and began to idle! I was so amazed. Brakes are all buttoned up, and just need one final bleed. The exhaust still needs a day's worth of work and the RX-8 seats still need to be mounted. Aside from several non-esential things it should be ready in time for SevenStock next week.

Jeff20B,
I got that measurement....10.25" from the alternator bracket to directly below the seam on the firewall.....not the seam itself. Hope to hear back from you, thanks.

FD Racer, that is truely a nice setup.. makes my car look like a pos compared to yours.. wish I had the time, money and work space to do something simlar. Your car is truely amazing!

Hope to see your car at seven stock. And since your in Torrance, perhaps you can make it out to the next monthly meet at ricky and ronnies. nov 4th around 11:30-12ish. for lunch.

Well keep us updated!

Alvaro,
Thanks for the compliments, you are very generous. It’s been one hell of a project in many ways…some good, others bad …and the majority of them really expensive. It is really exciting to be at this stage however. I will definitely be at sevenstock….which could very well be the first trip the car takes in its new form.
I used to always have to work on Saturdays and never had a chance to go to a meet at Ricky & Ronnie’s…but I now have Saturdays off and will try to make the next meet. Thanks for the invite.

I finally got the measurement. It is 485mm from the firewall directly below the seam to the back of the alt bracket. Your engine is incredibly far back. You could have installed a 20B or a 4 rotor.

So if my math is correct, 485mm = 19.09 inches. Thats a nine inch difference...I guess the original estamate is correct. Thanks man.

a 3 rotor would be cool. maybe one day.

Thanks man. I'm looking forward to talking cars all day, so absolutly pick all you want. It would'nt be fair to mention the fine work on this project without giving recognition to guys and gals at Hill Performance Solutions in Signal Hill where this build took place...without them this would have not been possible.

Man, that is one sweet setup. I wish i could see it in person. Maybe next year i will have to make the trip to sevenstock. Hopefully by then my car will be done. Someone is going to have to take lots of pics from sevenstock and post them up.

the car looks even better up close, but I didnt get a chance to meet you. But I met Mathew and picked his brain instead, he gave me some idea and a shopping list for my project. Sound like they have a great shop and know's what they are doing.

havent updated in a while...
took care of a few small oil leaks and an exhaust leak....sounds really nice now.
still need to do some more street tuning....running way rich in some areas, but have been able to turn boost up to 7 psi and it feels quick! The rear suspension hooks like theres no tomorrow...very little wheel spin, it would make a good drag racer. I got the coupe bumper mounted and a matching valance that I just painted black for now. Thanks to rotary dude for the hook-up on the bumper..here are some pics:
