It probably is not any smoother than a 12A or 13B. It just feels different. Unlike all other mazda rotary engines the 13A gets its 1310 capacity by way of increased rotor diameter and therefore eccentricity giving it great low rpm torque. The rotor diameter and eccentricity are very similar to mazda's new 16X engine. Three mufflers and great low rpm torque makes for very "smooth" quiet power.

The 13A engine is very rare. It was made exclusively for the front wheel drive Luce Rotary Coupe.

It does share the same rotor width dimentions of the 10A. 60mm

However the 13A rotors are larger in diameter. So rotor housing are larger in diameter. And eccentricity is larger. And low rpm torque is higher than a carby 13B.

does anybody know the internal vertical measurement of a mazda rotary housing? As you can see in the above picture's the 13A is 275mm.

The rear muffler has a leak so its a bit louder than its meant to be.

On the lefthand side is a standard mazda rotor housing measuring aprox 240mm.
On the righthandside is a 13A rotorhousing measuring aprox 275mm.

Special thanks to 7Aull in Alaska for braving the cold to provide photo's. Cheers mate
