Not much of an update, but I was able to pick up a '79 gearbox today. The drive out to Garnervillle NY and back took up most of the day, but it should be worth when its mocked up and fitment is better.
Here's a pic of it...its filthy, but a couple of cans of brakecleaner , a wire brush and some paint should fix that.

Fitment Bliss!!!
I was able to mislead my wife long enough today to get some work done on this thing. Talk about your car being like a mistress. Anyway...got the '79 box put in along with the engine spacers that were made up. What a difference!
I have enough room to run an electric fan now...
Shifter position is much more acceptable as well...
With the early style (and period correct in my eyes) shifter, I will not even have to mod the shifter hole. As an added bonus, the original GLC driveshaft (auto trans mind you) was the perfect length and bolted right up!
The only thing left to do now is make up some kind of trans mount. I would have done it tonight, but I felt the time would have been better spent installing the shifter and **** and then sitting in the drivers seat making "BRAP BRAP" noises and shifting gears...sorry. I just had to do it!

Ok...so its the end of my vacation from work and I spent my last day trying to make a bit more progress to full mock-up. I managed to get my trans mount adaptor done. and my headers cut down to the point where I can see exactly where my bends need to be so I can actually clear the steering linkage.
I was using some metal I had laying around the garage. It's not very pretty, but it will get the job done. If I find myself at the steel supply house I will get some more and re do this mount, but for now it will do the trick.

I am just about fully mocked up...just have to do my pedal box for the manual trans conversion. I am using a 1979 rx7 pedal box...I hear that I may not have to switch out the entire pedal assembly, and that I may be able to just use the thru-bolt and clutch and brake pedals in the original glc pedal box. They look very similar so we will see. I did indeed have to cut a little of the shifter hole to get the trans at the proper height and shifter mounted properly.

Ok, well its back to the grind at work, but I am trying to make some progress with this still. Not much to update, but I was able to get some engine bay bits painted up as well as the front swaybar.

I also was getting a little frustrated with mocking up headers that still don't want to fit, so out of curiousity I sourced a regular ex manifold and tested it out. It went on like it was meant to be there. This seems like the best option right now since I have no idea how to weld and would have prob spent a good amount of money (that I don't have right now) getting them made up. I have not given up though...
And I was finally able to get my engine out from the cold so I could start getting it cleaned up and do some maintenance to it like water pump thermostat, and rear main seal paint etc...

My 80 GLC from a previous life
I built mine in 1987, using the stock engine, trans and radiator from a 78 Cosmo coupe. The Cosmo radiator had the filler neck protruding aft so that the radiator could fit completely under the core support with just the filler neck sticking out, gave me enough room to run the stock fan. I used the stock cast iron exhaust manifold. I used 79 RX-7 front struts to get the bigger brakes, but they lowered the car more than 2 inches, which was more than I wanted, so I used some spacers to get some of it back. We built a rear axle housing using the GLC outer tubes and a RX-2 center section, and that allowed the use of a RX-7 limited slip. The GLC axles slid right in. I used a stock Mazda driveshaft of some sort, can't remember which one. We adapted the seat foam and upholstery from some fancy Audi seats into the GLC seat frames, front and rear, made a very plush interior.
I put over 100,000 miles on this car in four years. Towed my ski boat with it for two seasons, really very nice car. My son took his driving test in this car, then got fast time of the day with it in his first and only autocross!
I have done numerous swaps, this was definitely the easiest. Good luck with yours.

12A glc....no problem. I would be glad to have you come through. Prob gonna need some advice when it is time to wire it up anyway...lol! Yeah as stated earlier, I want to do over the trans mount. Its one one those things that no one will prob see but me, but I still want it better. Got my pedals almost done for the manual swap though.

Whats up dude,,GLC is coming out sweet,,,just in case I have the cross member from en Rx3 if your interested the one that go's on the bottom of the motor witch I saw you modified the GLC one,, sorry its to late but if you want it to look better and be original you should think about it. Good luck

Thanks Tony...I actually used a rx3 mount set up. I ended up buying it new from Austrailia. I only modified the origininal glc crossmember just to remove the mounts from the original piston motor since they were kinda in the way. But if you got a line on a rx3 radiator....let me know. Thanks

Well despite more crappy weather, I managed to keep moving foward a little. Got my clutch master cylinder holes drilled out and mounted.
Then I took it all out so I could clean up the area a little. Hit it with a little black paint
Then painted the booster and master and mounted it all back on the firewall. Also ran my hard lines and flex hose for the slave cylinder.
Also managed to get all the pedals hooked up with return springs and apply rods/clevis pins etc... And I think I officially need back surgery after laying under the dash for most of the day...lol
Hopefully I wont have to go back under there for a while.

Well not much to update today. I thought I would take a break from working out in the cold garage and work inside today on my engine. Go figure...it was the warmest day that we have had in quite some time, but I spent the morning getting my motor on the stand and setting up my work area.

Please be careful!!!
I am getting complaints about the image shack thumbnails...they are making virus software on the computers have a heart attack. Please view photos only as thumbnails. I was not aware of the problem since my computer has been in SAFE MODE since last week. I apologize to any forum members that may have experienced a problem with their computer as a result of viewing pics in my thread or items for sale.
