A bit of a problem yesterday mounts for the low preasure fuel pump to the header tank
failed
Fortunately it did not hit the road and a following motorcyclist saw it hanging down and waved me down, a quick repair and continued on my way.
I was wondering why they would fail, not being very old, until I tried to refit with new mounts when I found that the mounts are under stress all the time from the hoses being too long for the location of the mounts.
I will have to move the mounts a couple of inches to relieve the stress as it should have been made to start with.

At 1058 this morning I will have owned the car that has became Morrx for four years.
This is my first old car project and clearly from the thread I could have done some things better but my basic concept for the car has proved to have been right.
The Morrx package works, for me anyway, the appearance of a Morris Minor, albeit a bit modified, but with upgrades to enable relaxed easy use in modern traffic.
The best change has been the brakes, it has gone from having adequate breaks in the 50's to stopping better than most cars on the road today.
It makes driving it much more relaxed and enjoyable knowing you can stop.
The motor is the heart of the car and the rotary/auto combination has proved ideal for the Minor , with the power/torque coming with the revs the basically original suspension is not over whelmed on take off( no axel tramp etc) and the car just pulls smoothly away at what ever speed your right food dictates.
The main advantage of the increased power comes on the open road where you have more choices as to where to set the cruise control and where you can maintain your chosen speed irrespective of obstructions, hills, caravans etc. overtaking acceleration is much improved.
Come up behind a caravan at 100kph which is 2500 revs, slow to 80kph 2000revs in top but kick the auto and it will go back to second which is 4000 (peak torque) and with a satisfying push in the back you accelerate
and pass the caravan. The only thing to watch is your speed as it could easily exceed 120 before you pull back in. Because of the acceleration passing distances are much shorter and therefore are possible and safer than before.
More power dose not mean you have to go faster it just means you have more choices and can sustain your chosen speed more easily.
I am still amazed at the number of people who comment on the car, it appears that the majority of people with grey hair had something to do with a minor in their youth and it left a positive impassion.
I started out to build my vision of what a Morry should be in the 21st century and I think I have succeeded just a little fiddling with some cosmetics and it will be finished, if they are ever finished.
As I said before first time project and first time on a forum. In the time I have been on this forum I am surprised at the number of projects that
have started had frantic activity then stopped, hopefully they lost interest in the forum not their projects/dreams.
As we go into another year I look forward to having some more adventures and fun in Morrx and I hope you have as much fun in your chosen toy.

I found out yesterday that there was to be a car show at Mornington on New Years day and since some of the Melbourne Morries were going decided to go.
Morrx waiting to board the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento Mornington Peninsula.
The show was put on by a Rod and custom club so mainly Rods and American V8's.
The show had more cars turn up than was expected so Morrx , the Melbourne Morries and 100 or so others could not get into the venue,
Morrx eventually got in.
A few cars that took my eye of the several hundred present.
A very nice custonline, the very first car I drove was a Mainline, the ute version of the Customline of this vintage.

The Drysdale (10 minutes from where I am staying) cricket club held its second classic car show today
Morrx and the Geelong Morry's attended along with several hundred non Morrys
Some cars I liked
This is still an amazing shape after nearly 50 years.
What every MGB should have had.
Hers and His, Hornet with 351 and FC with 307 Chev.
Nice hot rod
Even a couple of other rotary cars
Bridge port 13B
Capella/RX2
Mazda 1200 wagon
Not a 1200 engine

A picture I took today of Morrx in the sunshine. I had washed it so I think it looks good.
Being winter I thought you mite need reminding of what a car looks like in the sunshine, 27C here today.

We went to the Colac Custom bike and car show today, the only Minor,
ended up parked next to an early 50's Mainline, the first car I drove was a later model .
It still had its side valve V8
A lot of different cars scattered inbetween the V8s

Morrx went to the First annul Portarlington Custom Car, Bike and Tattoo Show today. Quite a good turn out for the first one, especialy as it was a hot day good beach weather.
The only Minor and rotary. The Hornet was the only one also, it has a 351 ford.
Some of the cars there that took my eye,
This 35 chev had a 327 and was very well done
A nice Mk 1 Cortina GT
This would look good under a Minor Bonnet

On the morning of the first Sunday of the month there is a gathering of classic cars on the banks of the Derwent River in Hobart. Morrx and I went along for a look.
Both cars have the same injected 6 port 13B, one is original.
Has anyone put a Masarati V8 in a Minor?

I went to a British and European classic car show at Flemington on Sunday, over a thousand cars across the full spectrum of cars.
Here are a few pictures I took.
I had not seen one of these for a while, the Minor in the background is reputed to be the only 1,000,000 in Australia.
Austin A30 wagon, it looked to have its standard Engine.
I liked its optimism.
Clearly it dose not aspire to have a very much bigger engine as from my understanding the 803 dose not rev too freely
This little Wolseley was parked opposite Morrx, very nice.

Back home, a bit later than I had hoped. but good to be back in the warm.
We got back in time for the Ist Friday chrome bumper gathering at the Fishermans wharf.
Where I parked was next to a International Harvester pick up, the Family had one of these when I was young.
It was replaced by Ford Mainline, which was replaced by this model mainline which was the first car I drove.
Three rotaries there this month
And a couple of VWs among an assortment of other things.

Thanks for posting all these photos - I go to these car shows regularly in the Seattle area, and it is easy to think of this as a purely American form of insanity. It is good to know there is at least one other place in the world where all these old cars can be seen restored and/or customized. Of course the mix of cars is a bit different here, but a lot of them are the same.
The red Cortina GT brings back memories - had one just like that in a previous life, which I autocrossed with some success. Very rare to see one here these days.
I considered a Morris rotary swap, but by the time I got serious about it, they were just too expensive here. I did put a 13b into a Mazda GLC, as it was called here, and drove it over 100,000 miles.
Do you see any Studebakers there in Oz? I am just starting on a major swap, Skyline RB motor, front and rear suspension, Brakes, etc into a 1948 Studebaker. Pretty sure this will be the only one ------

How time flies, it was five years ago today that I became a Morry owner and started the project that was to become MORRX.
Owning a Minor is quite different to anything else I have owned, most times I take it out someone will comment on it or just look and smile as if remembering happy times.
Surprisingly this also happens in Darwin, where the average age of the population is much lower than other cities.
This is the first time I have done anything like this and I could have managed the project much better than I did but surprisingly the transplant has ended up with a car that performs much as I had hoped/expected.
The injected 6 port 13b is the perfect engine for older cars, it is relatively compact in size so fits without much cutting, its power is SMOOTH and progressive with power and torque coming with the revs, so you do not have to spend a fortune trying to stop axel tramp from the old cart springs. The engine pulls smoothly from 0 to 7000 rpm it just gets stronger as you go through peak torque at 4000 heading to peak power at 7000. If you use 7000 you pay for it in petrol consumption as you would with any engine but if you stay mainly under 3500 consumption is reasonable at around 30mpg, mind you letting the auto change a 3000 is adequate to keep ahead of the traffic even with the aircon on, 3500 in top is 140kph.
The best part of the changes, for enjoying driving the car, was the brake upgrade. The original brakes worked but did not inspire much confidence in modern traffic, if I had intended to keep the car just for club runs/weekends then the original set up may have had a place but as I use the car any time and especially with the increased power, power assist four wheel disks make life a lot more relaxed when driving and allows you to appreciate the driving more not having to worry about the usual idiots as much knowing you can stop.
Over all I would say a positive five years, some frustration in the beginning getting people to do what they said they would but now I enjoy Morrx every time I take it out and that is what it was all about in the first place.

The Geelong Morries were the biggest group with about 20 cars with all types represented except a Van.
Apart from the Morries hear are a few other cars that attracted my attention:

Wow Graham, that's a lot of Morries! Bet you're is the FASTEST of the bunch. What's been the reaction of other Morris Minor owners to your conversion? Thanks for posting up pics. Always fun for us State-siders to see non U.S. brands and models

Yes 20 is a few Morries for a club gathering, they usually get about 200 to the bi annual National gathering of the clubs.
Morrx is generally accepted by other Minor owners as most cars are modified in some way and always have been, Morrx is just a little more so than most.
