In all of my searching over the internet and asking people, I have NEVER heard of or seen an RX6. Did Mazda just skip it or something?

 

they made a mazda MX-6...i dunno about the rx-6

 

According to Felix Miata and myself (lol) the REPU was supposed to be Mazda's RX-5 and the Cosmo was going to be the RX-6. But then some bright moron (no offense)in marketing decided to call the '76 Cosmo the RX-5 for the Australian market for some reason. Probably because they never got the REPU. Probably for the same reason they called the '74 12A a 12A instead of a 12B even though lots of improvements were made in the engine. In Japan it was still known as the Cosmo as they tend to call their home market cars by names such as Savanna, Capella etc. The Cosmo ran from '76-'78. The RX-7 ran from '79-'85.

According to reliable rumors, er... sources, The RX7 was so different from any of the preceding RX models that they skipped a number, so that's why there is no RX6, Billy.

It's actually similar to the original Cosmo 110s and the X020G concept car which was going to have a 15A in it. It also shared lots of parts bin goodies with the older RX crowd. It was Mazda's answer to the Datsun 240, 260, and 280 'Z' cars. I wouldn't say it's that different at all.

 

My dad allways said that 7 was the lucky number.
