Mazda pickup with rotary engine?

I had an offer today to buy a rotary engined Mazda pickup for 30 bucks. I haven't seen the truck but the guy said the engine was supposedly rebuilt before it was put in and the owner died (old age) before he got the engine completely installed.

If the engine was rebuilt and never starteed but has been sitting for 2 years is there any chance it will run when put back together?

Did mazda even make a pickup that came with a rotary engine? I have no idea the year or anything and have not seen it yet. I'm going to go look at it tommorow buit was curious about the engines running possibility.

Yes, they sold rotary pickups back in the seventies. I would stay away from this if I were you.

Yeah, uh, stay away from it, but if it is a REPU and it's almost all there, what's his number?

Buy that thing man! Why is some people telling him to stay away from it?
$30 is all the guy is asking and a rotary pickup that hardly anyone else has with a new motor is worth much more than that! IMHO

It has a 13b also so a TurboII motor will bolt in. Except maybe transmission mounting, and things like that but the motor should mount up right or with little fabrication.

Welp, I saw the truck last night and it's a 77 Mazda truck with a rotary engine. Manual tranny, factory paint job, no bondo or missing parts. The engine has NO oil on it at all but is not bolted up to the tranny so I figure it's a fresh rebuild that was never finished. I can turn the engine over by hand but it has no sprak plugs in it so I am afraid the inside may have some corrosion. I bought it anywhay though. It was sold in this area and still has the factory manual/book. It has no keys though and no title. The bottom of the passenger side door in the corner is rusted through, the bottom of the tailgate is rusted through about 1/4 inch strip all the way across. All the lights are in tact and in good shape. Wireing harness looks good. Seats ripped. Glass is perfect, original as it has "mazda etched into it in the corner. Factory rims in good shape. Floorpan is perfect, no rust and paint still looks like new on inside. Dash is cracked (go figure), but is in tact. All the gauges look good and are in place. Even has A/C. Front Bumper is in mint condition. Rear bumper is too but it's a heavy painted steel bumper. Heheh bayyery is on the passenger side at the bottom, guess thats where it's supposed to be but I thought it was cool.

I'm going to pick it up tonight and will wash it off and take some pictures. Could be a fun little project! Heck for 30 bucks it's worth it just for the parts and the experience of having a good engine to tear into and learn a little bit!

OK, I've got a few pictures up if anyone would like to take a look. After cleaning out the engine bay I found out it has a 12A in it and not the 13B, Oh well, what you expect for 30 bucks.

Hey, that is a nice REPU. Especially when you consider it was only $30!

Mine had a 12a in it also when I bought it, but the rear rotor had no more apex seals left at all and I paid $300. You got a heck of a deal!
