length of left tierod rx2?

What is the length of the left tierod for 1972 rx2? The tierods I have are only 4.5 inches. My car needs 6.5 inches.

The shop that I had previously task to work on my rx2 made this tierod. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt they just did that as a temporary solution to roll the car around the shop.

Here you go, it's 6.5 inches. These inner tie rods are very hard to come by. I've been looking for a pair for some time now.

I actually wanted to know how long the bolt should should be. Your picture has cleared some things up for me though. thanks for posting that.

Your tierod ends or different than mine. I guess my tierod ends come from a gsl-se.

Yeah that does look like a RX7 outter tierod. The RX7 inner tie rod should resemble the picture I posted with a bend in it, that clears the suspension. They look the same but they're not. Mainly where the rod bolts up to the strut assembly. I think the joint bolt is thicker on the RX7 rod, so there is some boring out to be done to the RX2 strut assembly.

I haven't tried this yet, but I will soon since the inner RX2 rods are no longer available. The RX7 route is less expensive as those are still available.

I have a '73 rx2 and ordered the tie rod ends from Austrailia since they are impossible to find here. Still got the wrong inner tie rod end which was the shorter one for '74 and up rx2's. I ended up doing a search for tie rods on the MOOG websites since they list lengths and threads and found that part number MOOG-ES458S which fits datsun 510 and others has the same thread pitch (M14-1.5E) and is 6.5" long. I ordered a couple from Amazon and they worked great. I can get pictures with measurments if needed. Hope that helps!

I had the same problem as forumundr , over 130.00 shipped for 2 of the wrong tie rod ends . thanks for the part # . but is the taper and angel the same ? And extending the threaded center like you did is super dangerous FYI. If you need any help finding parts let me know I have extras of almost everything.

The part should come this week. I would let you know if it works.

The guy that welded it for me, said that is how they did it all the time for for the custom sand rails. The custom tierod I have above is made from two tie rods welded together, so the tierod goes all the way through the pipe. He thinks the sand rails with all the jumps/bumps take a harder beating than our cars do. dunno.

I will feel much safer/happier if the part I order works.

YA well If it brakes on a sand rail you don't have to worry about crashing into on coming traffic. Welding will take the temper and strength out of the threaded ends , and not trying to be insulting ,but the welds don't look that great. I hope those moogs work .

That can come in real handy in the future. Do you an email/website link/phone # for them?

Glad it worked, I was extremely excited when i got mine back together. With these tie rods, we can now use the 1974 and up rx2 tie rod ends.

So you don't need the longer inner tie rods with these rods? and there are no clearance issue? that would be great if that's the case.
