Talking JDM 13bt in my repu

Just picked up a JDM 13bt with 5 speed trans and ECU and wireing harness off ebay!. It's going to replace my tired crate motor in my '74 REpu. Anybody done this? Besides Front cover change, fuel pump and maybe pan change what else might I need or encounter. Thanks for any help.

I've got a complete 94 drivetrain I'm contimplating putting in a REPU.

Front and rear suspension, diff, engine, trans, modded PPF, ABS, everything. It'll be a 3rd gen in REPU clothing.

I'm another '74 REPU owner. I'm also currently screwing around with a rotary powered B2000. After that, I'm porting a 4 port 13B and rebuilding it for my REPU. Plenty of fun.

Well they aren't struts, they are shocks and springs. FDs have lower and upper control arms.

The rear subframe holds all the rear suspension, brakes and diff. So if I could either make the rear FD subframe fit the REPU or build a custom one that has the same pick up points as the FD. I'm sure the bed would need to be modded to get the shocks in the same position. It would just look like it was tubbed.

The front subframe holds the engine, steering rack and lower control arm mounting points. So I would need to modify the frame to accept the upper control arm mount.

Of course the driveline would need to be modified along with the PPF.

The only thing I'm worried about is the width. Does anyone know the width of the REPU? Narrowing everything would pretty much make it not worth it.

If anyone has a Yamaguchi book for the FD look on page 86. It shows the complete FD guts without the body. Imagine that in a REPU.

Jeff

I was wondering what the width of the truck is from the outer edge of the wheels. I found a original brochure on-line and a Road & Track article. What I found was:

REPU 67"
FD 68.9"

Track (I assume this is from the center of the wheels?)

REPU 57" F 56" R
FD 57" F and R

So the width is off but the track is pretty close. The bummer is the REPU track is narrower in the rear.

On second thought to this whole "proposed" project I'm thinking it might just be easier to build a completely new frame rather than try and modify the existing one.

Then again I don't know if I should even start this big of project. Maybe I should just restore it. I can get the bed, fenders, doors and hood dipped in a chemical bath to clean the up. The frame can be sandblasted and powdercoated for $300, pick-up and drop-off included!

the repu track in rear can be fixed by putting a 1/2" wheel spacer behind each wheel!

REPU can be made to handle well:

http://www.checkpointmotors.net/Proj...ail.asp?pID=17

I like this paragraph best:
This REPU isnt just about going fast in a straight line, it can actually handle too! Chris autocrosses his truck (along with fellow employee Scott Steinhoek and his red REPU). Both did so well that the "open street prepared" class was jokingly renamed the "Mazda Truck" class! Chris was 1st throughout the season while Stott held a close third. In the last race for the season, Chris was unable to attend (he was racing at Laguna Seca) so his lead was taken by a 550hp Cobra. Chris has proved that with driving talent and extensive tuning knowledge, a Rotary Pickup can race with the best of the bunch!

I was worried that the FD stuff would actually be too wide leaving the wheels sticking out past the bed/body.

Seems you could fix that problem with some offset wheels maybe.
