Hitachi carb rebuild. Tips/Tricks?
Hey guys,
As my engine is nearing the 'build' phase, I am about to rebuild my carb.
This is a 76 Cosmo, 13B, Hitachi.
The engine is NOT getting a streetport, but the ports have been 'cleaned up', and the manifold has also been smoothed. The only other mods are road race header, and electronic ignition, no emissions.
Any tips and tricks you guys can give me while I'm rebuilding the carb? I have had great success rebuilding Nikki's, so I am not worried about that.
Going emissions delete, are there do dads I can strip from the Hitachi, like a Nikki?
Thanks!

Hitachi is a lot easier than a nikki. Just draw a picture/ map on paper or a shoe box that you can either tape or poke through the pieces you pull off the carb. That's how I knew what pieces went where after I pulled the throttle plate/mid section and top out of the the carb dip bucket.

My experience is that I could get more CFM from a modded Nikki than a Hitachi as the Nikki's Prim and Sec venturies were removable . Depending on the engine I would bore the secondary venturies like crazy and re-jet accordingly . The Hitachi I could only do the primaries and re-jet.
Both carbs are good and both can be changed to mechanical secondaries.
