Hi,
Like the title reads I have a head scratching problem on my Rx2. I have recently installed a 1980 12A with 81+dizzy upgrade. I had fchoncho over today to help troubleshoot my no start issue. We have power at the coils when key in ON position but as soon as I turn the key to START the power dies at the coils. So we tried it at fuse panel under glove box same deal power then crank and dead. We were using a test light on the coils and a spark tester too. funny thing is that when I turn the key back to ON the was a weak single flash of spark! Does anyone have a similar issue they have dealt with? Sound like a dead switch?

coz the old school ignition has a start relay. this is an easy fix but no time to run and get my electrical book. so grab a fog lights relay and hook it up like this:
30amp = battery
87=coil + terminal
85=starter's solenoid wire
86=ground.

Wacky to the rescue like usual! Lol! Yeah, ran out of time because my stomach was rumbling and I had to get to work. I forgot to bring a multi-meter w/ me too so we couldn't check if we were getting a voltage drop at the coils when trying to crank it or if it just wasn't getting any power at all. I'm guessing it wasn't getting any power, but I'd still like to check the voltage. Def have to have Ozzy double check the ignition relay though.
Thanks for the reply Wacky!

Yeah but that still wouldnt explain why the power is being lost at the fuse box would it? I kept the original metal ignition relay bolted on the inner fender wall. I dont doubt I need a relay I see a newer one in my Rx3 I bought from Rick but its hard to trace the routing coz it looks like he had Edward Scissorhands help him install it. Thanks for helping WacDonalds
glad I can help. just remember that old school RX has a "start relay" Without it, no power to coils when you try to start the car. if you elimnate the start relay, you have to jump 2 wires: black/yellow or yellow/black IDK, I cant remember it exactly. lol
Thanks for the tip. Get this man a Heiney!

Correcting myself here, Not start relay but ignition relay which has a 3-wire pigtail :
YB = from Ignition key's Run terminal (for old school RX only).
BY = from Ignition key's Start terminal.
LR = to trailing coil's + terminal.
if the ignition relay is gone, connect BY directly to either coil's + terminal. If that doesnt work, try YB. That should give provide juice to the coil when starting the engine.
If it doesnt work still, give me a hawler and I will grab my wiring diagram.

We have power! shes running I had a wire off the coil that my mate with the same set up didnt have connected (weird). so it was my mistake. carb isnt the best though sometimes just pours fuel in then sometimes fine. would that be problems with the seats in the floats?

Yeah its a stock carb stripped. I read a thread on keeping the float vent plunger hooked up so I tried it and it didnt flood sweet. So then I tried it diconnected and no flooding either F#@K! This car hasnt been on the road since 84 and Im starting to think it doesnt want to be back on the road.
