HD 929 13b-re swap

Well I found a great deal on a nice 1992 Mazda 929 with a bad engine (3.0 L JE-ZE V6). I know they offered the rotary in the HC (86-91) 929. How hard of a swap would it be to drop in a 13B-REW out of a FD into a 92 929. I would like to keep the auto trans that is in the 929. So what do you guys think it would take?

Go check out the Autralian forums. I know the aussies and NZers do these swaps more often than the people here.

I tried to join that asurotary site and it kept saying that my e-mail was not valid. It was weird, I put in 3 different email addy and it said the same for all. I will try fdowers, thanks.

That's one car that I'd love to have. I friends parent had one in the early 90's (Pearl White). That thing was pure luxury.

I'd love to find one in good condition.

Yea I am not getting alot of help on fdowers.com. The reason I don't want to do the 20b is because the price is so much higher compaired to getting the 13b-rew, and my wife is alright with me spending the $1400 to get a j-spec 13b and I can not get a 20b for that little. Hey Viking, this car is pearl white, it might be your friends old one. I will try to get on ausrotay again...

Edit: it just keeps giving me the same "The e-mail address you entered is not allowed to be used" WTF!?

You may have to be the innovator of this little project

Have you looked at the Cosmo 13b? They were all autos to my knowledge and the Cosmo was produced through the same years so the parts may be more directly transferable

You are right but we are talking 929, which were always rwd. I might be the first to do the swap on this site, wish I could find some insight on it before I buy the 929 though...

I had a mint 1992 929 I couldn't sell at $300, I tried forever

they're a nice car, I'm not sure how suited they are to a 2 rotor though because they're really heavy.

Well the 3.0 L JE26 V6, DOHC is only rated at 198 hp/200 ft·lbf, and a 13b-rew stock is more than that. After I get it in and make sure its all working right I could always to the normal mods to get even more power.

A conversion like this is not that popular in Oz but there are quite a few getting around in NZ.

http://www.rotahavik.co.nz

This is THE Kiwi rotary web site & you may have better luck there. Although they exist in Oz a 13B-REW powered HD-929 is a rare sight.

Dont bother with FDowners.com as that site is dominated by hardcore childish *******.

Here is a rotary powered HD-929 that took me 1 minute to find on the web.

Trade me - NZ

Thanks for the info. It might be a little late now though because I think the guy started parting the 929 out that I was trying to pick up. Thanks anyways, and that link for that 929 you posted was very sweet.

I would like to, but I might need to wait till I find another good deal on a clean HD 929 with a bad engine. I am going to keep my eyes open and wait for the right car. I would really like to own a HD 929 with a 13b or a 20b, so it is not over, just might take a little longer. But seeing this makes me want one even more.

A lot of info on 929 Rotary swaps can be found on the 929 forums, I believe it was part of the mazdaforums.com if recall correctly. I am going to do one if I can ever finish my two current projects. 20B is the best way to go if you have the cash.
