Having a hopefully simple Tranny problem...

I hope this hasn't been covered in this or any other section already, but I couldn't find an answer when I searched. Anyhow...I am using a T2 tranny in my RX2 but the sleeve that the speedo cable connects to on the tranny is broken. When I pulled the sleeve out of the tranny I noticed that there is a gear attached to the whole piece. After calling the local Mazda dealer to order the part, they said that it comes in 3 pieces; Gear, Sleeve, or O-ring. I see that I only need the sleeve. After diggin around in my garage I found another one...the problem is, how do I separate the three parts? The gear is attached to the sleeve somehow, but I can't figure out how to get the d*mn thing off! I noticed a small pin that seems like it holds the gear on somehow, but I don't wanna damage anything "guessing" at how to remove it. Anyone do this before? Please help?!?!?!

Rather than trying to remove the gear, the whole inner cable will slide out the tranny end. Push on the speedo end and it'll pop the gear out. Just pull from there and it should slide out freely.
