nice numbers. Finally got around to test driving an RX8 this past sat. It was fun, alot different than my GSL-SE of course, but it wasnt bad. I plan to save up for two years and put down around 20k, see where mazda is at in 2yrs (MS RX8 or RX7 , dpending on what news is out) But yea, Jon and Jeff have done two awsome jobs.

his mileage went up after the turbo was added, but i blame that on "john" the turbo owner, drives between 5-7k rpm, to "keep it in the powerband", before he got the turbo he never used 5th or 6th.

He currently gets 17mpg mix highway and city during the bitter cold MTBE enhanced gasoline New Jersey winters.

Good stuff . I'll be curious to see how the car responds to higher boost b/c of the movement of the exhaust ports to the irons......

Question Low power or High Power?

Hi.

Excuse me for asking a possible stupid question, but is the turbokit for the low power (192 hp) or for the high power(231Hp) (-or does it fit both models) ?

Here in Europe we get the low power as a manual shift, and if the power with a turbo would be similar on both low/high power blocks, then there would be an advantage in starting out with a low power (cheaper, less tax, stronger box(5-speed), etc).

Any downs to putting the turbokit on a 192 hp Car(low power)?

Ciao

One major problem besides your a/f all over the place is your tuner. Mike (Altered)does not know ANYTHING about rotaries.

the kit comes pretuned from Greddy and the maps locked with a password. All the mechanic does is install it.

It wont work on the low power car, not yet at least, Greddy is working on a kit for Europe/UK, no word yet on the low power version.

Do you mean the dyno place they went to, I'm only assume so because you live in MD as well. The dyno guys didnt' touch their cars the John didn't have a chance to even tune his car because the Greddy map is password protected and he's had trouble getting it from Trust.

Jeff (the guy with the home-custom built turbo who went with John) on the other hand is one of the more qualified people for tunning the greddy piggyback, he tuned his turbo up from 210 to 230whp while there.

you heard wrong . It is rated at 238 motor hp (down from the original 250) and makes aroudn 180 rwhp, so draw your own conclusions. Of course, the last n/a rotaries made like 130ish wheel hp, so this is still a huge increase.

Handling? Have you not picked up a car mag in the last 2 years? The RX-8 kicks enough *** that it beat the Infiniti G35 in a head to head road and track shootout

and you guys say use rx8club people are ignorant of rx7s. Like the above post rated at 238, engine dyno saying 219-222 at the crank, dyno whp range is based on how different the MAF sensor output voltage is from car to car, (162-190).

As for handling less grip then a 3rd gen but better cornering.

Thats what i was thinking.

hes a BRAVE man to have altered tune his 8. Hell anyone who has altered tune their cars is brave. Still amazes me to see tuners like them keep getting business, but i guess a sucker is born every minute

There were 2 guys at the dyno that day. The guy with the Greddy kit which is pretuned and password locked and another guy with a custom home made kit with emanage, he tuned his at the dyno
