engine mounts 1st gen vs 2nd gen vs 3rd gen
Hi All -
I wasn't sure where to put this thread since I'm looking for info on 3rd gen and the GSL-LE motors, so here it is.
I was wondering if someone could post pics of the way the 3rd gen engine mounts and pics of GSL-LE mounts.
I am working on my project car and the few people that have done this conversion in the past has either had a custom engine built using the gsl-le front end cover or used a GSL-LE motor because of the mounting ears on it makes mounting easier. I'm hoping to be able to use a 3rd gen motor because i can get them cheaper than a custom built motor.
Cheers!

On the left we see a 3rd gen engine with its rear mount. On the right we see a 6 port 12A. The intermediate plate has threaded holes exactly like a GSL-SE. You can either use these holes with a few studs or bolts, or use the front cover mount as seen below.
A GSL-SE engine has these threaded holes on both sides. A 2nd gen engine is a little different and harder to adapt to other chassis. Just passing along the info.

You can put any first gen front cover (12A or 13B) on any of the 2nd or 3rd gen engines for mounting into an early RX or a 1979-85 RX 7. They will all accomplish the same task.
Basically you have 4 holes on the front cover of a first gen motor that a engine mount is bolted to. That engine mount then has 2 holes on the ends where it is bolted to donut sized polyeurthane motor mounts. These polyeurthane mounts are attached to a cross member that is bolted onto the car. Really though if you are trying to mount a later engine into an earlier car. All you need to know is in the first paragraph.
