Easiest/best car for a 13b swap?
#28
808 conversion
An 808 (piston engined rx-3) use one of these
My last car was an 808, a 1.3 lt 4-banger, with extractors on stock motor, it could spin its wheels it in 1st and second.
They are so lite 850 kgs...
all u need is a cross memeber from an rx-3 and a rx-x engine gearbox and so-on
Howeaver the rear suspension will need work as it's leaf sprung, and steers from the *** end, even with that little gutless 4 cyilinder in it..
just a suggeston

I am in the process of putting a 12a into a Triumph Spitfire, which weighs about 1400-1500 lbs after being stripped of the nonessentials. Even if the 12a is almost stock it will still make a very fast car at 1400 lbs. I removed the window glass, top, heater, carpets, etc. We shall see..

Hey that's pretty cool, I used to have a '69 spitfire but now I have a '68 midget. Getting all the parts together for the engine swap is beginning to **** me off. It's just so nice outside, finally.

I left this post for dead and now I come back and see 2 pages of replies! Woohoo!
Everyone has a different idea for what would make a cool 13b sleeper, but cool and easy aren't the same thing. Which is the coolest of the "easier" swaps?

I am just about to start with the MG midget swap.
I decided on this car because it seems to be one of the easier ones. Although I haven't done it yet. There is plenty of help to get it done, several people have done it. The car is super small and super light, making it obviously super fast with the rotary in it. Plus it's a convertible which is super cool.
Seriously, check it out.
Midgets can be picked up for as little as 2000$ in fair condition if you can find them.

I have seen a guy with a supercharged 13b miata autocross and it was the second fastest car I think I have seen race. I think he said it weighed somewhere around 1600 or so (It had no windows or anything).
The fastest car I have every seen autocross would be the rotary powered Austin Healey Sprite. This car would absolutely fly. It would be a blast to drive.

why wouldnt what that kid said work? the hachi roku toyota corolla... i was trying to buy one of these for about a year now and i came so close to buying one with 250,000 miles on it and still running original everything, well i was planning on buying a 20 valve motor and buildin it, now that i think about it, if i knew how to do that kinda thing it might be more cost effective to throw a 13bt motor in there to get high hp.. im not sure how much the car weighs but it looks freeking light, im pretty sure its gotta do better than a fc.. fc's are very heavy for how small the car looks, look at a 4 seat integra, bigger than a fc, bigger motor but much lighter...... i have a lot of pride in a FD but 1 thing that mazda is not good at is making light cars

Been driving my 12a streetport 12a for 2 days now, and it is a true sleeper. No indication from the outside except for the exhaust note, and the 10,000 RPM tach. Oh, and the occasional fire ball out the exhaust. Oops. Will post pics soon.

Starlet are getting a bit sparse in the states, I just happen to see one on a message board for sale close to me and bought it just to have. lol Not sure what I am going to do with it yet. But it runs and drives, and for $100 it was hard to pass up.

Poly - Alfa Romero's are very cool cars. The GTA's are very competative stile in Vintage Racing alittle heavy though.
I have seen 1975 MG Midget with a 13B Bridgeport, Roots type blower, holly carb, Jag rear end. It seemed to be well thought out. You should have a nice car when you are done. Post some progress pics when you have time.

Yeah man, I can't wait.
Hopefully it'll be done in about 3 weeks or so.
I'm having it done for me as I have no time and I'm not a mechanic.
However, I can drive, which to me is the main thing.
This is my replacement for my Yamaha R1 which I crashed a couple of years ago and wrote off the bike. By some miracle I managed to land on my feet after the accident without anything so much as a scrape to show for it. Except of course for a new bike which was totally destroyed in the process. Yes, I am a lucky man, anyhow.... Thought I'd get into hotrodding and then thought I'd buck the huge SUV trend and look for the tiniest car I could find that was also convertible. Well, this is what I came up with, so yeehaa I guess.
New 12a with streetport and as long as I can push about 220HP or so, well....that's some serious power for such a little car. Should be good for this summer at least and then suspension upgrades next year.
Hopefully I'll have some pix up shortly.
