Terrified.
I don't know how reputable the story is, but a friend of mine (a big fan of American Muscle cars) told me that in the early to mid 80's Chevrolet did build one Corvette powered by a three rotor. But like I said, I don't know how reputable that is.

The car in the article was called the Aerovette. This concept car was supposed to have 4 rotor wankel that GM had supposedly developed in the 70s. However like many other car companies, trying to tackle the rotary engine, GM backed downed because of oil and fuel consumption. So they used a V8 instead, the Aerovette never went into production. There were other rotary powered concept cars that GM had concepts for including a two rotor concept car designed by Pininfarina (red one pictured below).

Here's a link to an interesting article that talks about other cars, that had plans to be rotary powered, including the Aerovette. It also post some numbers for horsepower, I don't know how accurate the numbers are though.

The 1973 Chevy Vega, rotary powered concept car, has been brought up a couple times in this subject. Here's a link to another article, previously listed on Ebay, that has pictures and information about the 1973 rotary powered Chevy Vega concept car.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Damn the GM rotary program died a fast painful death. Emissions is always going to be the enemy of the Rotary engine. Hydrogen might be able to rectify that, I have no idea. I would watch out before bragging to those "muscle car heads" about this, why? because they will only say that it never went into production and must not have been better. GM cut their loses before ever going that route. Looks like Mazda was the only company to have the ***** to put it into mass production. Look what they have had to endure. All good info on here though. Rotary history is kind of depressing because of the potential never achieved. Its like they had the right idea, but just gave up. Damn that is too bad.
