Canadian NSU Ro80 project *pics*

Check out another one of my winter projects! The customer has had this car since new and was last registered in 1973, it was only driven for 3 years and has 53,xxx miles on it!
Of course everyone knows the NSU rotaries were well known for being crappy, so its no surprise that the motor was blown, luckly the owner has 2 spare engines.
He is getting us to put together a motor for him over the winter and come spring he wants us to install it and get it running.
Hopefully the spare engine parts can be brought back to life! They have been sitting for 34 years.

Pics!

Very cool, you find new hard seals or hoping to scavenge them? Should be lots of fun getting that together!

That is quite a find.

Am I the only one wondering about the coolant passage ways or lack thereof. Also amazed by the thickness of the aluminum housings.

The (what looks like) "NSU Wankle" with the rotor shaped engraving on the housings looks VERY cool!

We built an Ro80 engine a couple years ago, same senario. Car had ben sitting since the 1970's and the customer had 2 engines. We built one good one from the 2. Here is a link to the project:

It's a front-drive p-port with inboard brakes... very strange indeed.

I never noticed how tiny the stationary gear is. The wear on the apex seal must have been killer.
