Everyone,
Approximately a week ago I was contacted by a husband and wife who currently live in the Phoenix area but lived in Japan during the late 1980s. When they returned in 1990, they brought back an ULTRA-rare 1967 Mazda 110S Cosmo Sport with them from Japan. They feel that the car has all of the required pieces, but it hasn’t run since the mid 1980s. They've sent some pics of the car, but I have yet to get over to their house to check it out more closely. I presume since the engine hasn't run in nearly 25 years that an engine rebuild and carb overhaul will be first on our agenda. I've heard that 10A housings are rare if not impossible to find. Any idea (stateside) where we might find parts if needed. Also, they've never registered the car stateside, so please advise as to the kind of obstacles we'll be facing in this arena as well.
Thanks!

Everyone.... wow, it's been forever since my last post. Well, Glenn got the car running but noticed a lot of smoke on startup that wasn't going away. In contacting his friends at Mazda R&D in Irvine, they suggested sending the engine to Jim Mederer and his team at Racing Beat in Anaheim to assess the problem. Well, after teardown and months of a worldwide search for 10a engine parts, Jim and his team are nearing completion. Here's an excerpt from the message Glenn received just yesterday!
"...good news - the engine is finished, fully broken in, and made 127 HP@ 7000 rpm (and a bit more above). There is no sign of oil in the exhaust in the dyno room. The engine runs well, and can idle well at 750 rpm. However, oil pressure drops a bit at such low rpm so I set idle closer to 875 rpm. It should be ready for pickup after Monday."
Looks like the Epic build may be nearing completion. Here's a pic of the engine on the break in Dyno at Racing Beat!! Enjoy!!

Man talk about an adventure! This thing has been going on for 4 or 5 years now.
Once that engine goes in it will be completed right?
Again thank you for posting and thanks to Glenn for restoring this masterpiece!

Did you READ from post 330 on? The car was completed long ago. Glenn kept it for about a year and a half before being contacted by a collector in Seattle who was interested in purchasing the car. It's in someone's private collection in Seattle.

Yup, and for what's sure to be a world-record price for a rotary car! We all know how prices have been appreciating. This one will set the new bar. The car is just flat-out perfect. I'm just glad I was able to be a small part of the process and witness the entire restoration.
glen stated on fb that it already sold for 6figures. assuming that he was talking about the sale to seattle. definitely one that im going to be watching.
buy those 30k$ cosmos now before they rival the prices of the 2000gt

It sold for $240,000 yesterday. Amazing stuff. It is nice to see a Mazda rotary achieve such high values in the collector car world, even if it may never trickle down to the RX-7s.
