The beautiful sound of the 787B
The beautiful sound of the 787B
Here's a well written article from the October issue of Evo magazine about the aural and physical experience of test driving the restored Le Mans winning 787B.
Wow, i didnt know about the chassis being totally stuffed at races end.
I did know about the engine wear (or lack thereof) and some very impressive fuel consumption figures.
I also remember watching a video of a pitstop, and the commentator explained the unique pit exit technique.
The driver would grab first gear before the car has hit the ground, engine off.
Once cleared to leave, the driver would hold full throttle and punch the starter button.
Looked brilliant, the other teams were leaving big black marks, or stalling followed by big black marks. The mazda was already rolling when it started to feed power to the rear wheels, reducing wheelspin and providing better drive out the box
