BC 808 to RX3 throttle cable question

I have converted my 73 808 coupe to an RX3 and have installed a 85 6-port SE 13B.
Changed to carb set-up using a Weber 48IDA and correct manifold . The factory 808 throttle linkage uses a combination of cables and linkage attached to the firewall (just like old Datsuns) , but I'm sure the RX3 just had a cable only to the carb. Would any older RX throttle cable work ie: RX2 /3/4 or were they different in length and attaching at the pedal? Or could I adapt a first gen RX7 cable ? What have other old school owners done ? Thanks for the info...

I've done a few of these , the rx2 and repu (only sighting what I've used ) have a throttle cable that goes through the firewall with no mech. linkage and bolts to the fire wall with 2 bolts . I usually just use the rubber boot that bolts to the fire wall , and pull the glued cable housing out of the boot . The low cost way to do the cable is by going to a bicycle shop and cut the housing to the length you need , use the threaded piece that retains the housing on a bicycle to the brake lever and use 2 lock nuts to secure it to the carb bracket ,and use a brake cable with the led ball for the bell crank of the carb and the other end goes through the hole in the gas pedal . Cut to the desired length and use a mechanical crimp lock (a round metal object with a hole the cable goes through that has an allen set screw ). The only problem with bicycle cable is its not double wound cable any more so in time it does fray and work harden . the more expensive way is to use the fire wall retainer and use a lokar universal throttle cable kit . I have done both methods and the lokar way is the best way in the long run .Hope that helps and good luck .

87+ mazda pick up truck (2200 or 2600) accelerator will work with little mod. its longer than a first gen/old school cable but the cable is the same diameter and the ball at the end of the cable need a little trimming to fit an old school mazda bellcrank which I used on my IDA. it is push on type to the firewall just like any RX-7 so you may need to make a bracket of some sort to secure it to the firewall. I cant remember how 808 is so you may not need to make the bracket.

Sounds like someone's modified your throttle in the past. I've had a few 808's over the years and I've never heard of throttle linkages on the firewall. :S 808's came standard with a single accelerator cable going straight to the carby like the RX-3's but I'm not sure if they would've been the same length though.

I think there was a place here somewhere (Australia) that did cables for this sort of application.

Hi Marco,

No I haven't gotten to that stage yet. They're going to need a bit of repairing on a couple of the corners first. I've got the car back from the painter and it's sitting in the shed waiting for me to reassemble it. I have a build thread of it on Ausrotary.com if you're a member there.

Thanks for all the tips guys , much appreciated. My son has an extra B2200 so I am going to look at that cable setup first , it sounds fairly simple. KeithRX3C , I've seen other 808"s years ago and they had this same goofy linkage.I think there may be a difference between RH and LHD versions as the carb location stays the same but obviously the location of driver / pedal is opposite. This was originally an auto trans car , that might make a difference.
