74 REPU engine GURUS! Need advice...

I recently found a repu 74, and its been sitting since 83, no visible accidents so I am assumig engine failure. Now assuming I am right whats should I expect, from a rotory motor sitting so long? I am getting the engine and tranny, and yes I am going to refresh the motor.

I read on other threads about changing guts from newer RX7 for clutch options, how does this affect me using the REPU tranny, its 4 speed.

Thanks for all help. DCBORIQUA

It will still work, people put newer 13B engines in repus all the time. I had a 76 repu with a gslse engine and repu tranny in it. If you need parts i have a friend here with quite a few parts......

Fast responce!!!

I might have not been clear. I want to take the motor and tranny from that REPU for my KE15 sprinter Corolla project. Is it a good bet or am I asking for trouble?
I have been told they were good engines because they came ready made for truck and truck duty's.

Thanks DC

It won't work that well. Those engines had very small exhaust ports, weak stationary gears, and the thrust assembly likes to disintegrate on you. Every '74-'75 REPU engine I've ever messed with has had these problems. The old 4 speeds are very heavy and can't be shifted quickly. You're better off getting the engine and tranny out of a 1st gen or something.

I'd hate for a perfectly fixable REPU to go to the wrecker just because you needed an engine and tranny.

People have been shot for less than that

DCBORIQUA. find you a better suited running gear for the sprinter and keep the truck until you can fix it up. I second the motion to convert it to a later combo as well.

With a GSL-SE engine/tranny swap, is that pretty much a bolt in? How 'bout the tranny hole?

we should start a thread for engines +'s and -'s and tricks to getting bang for the $.....

Most the engines we will run into will will be old school anyways.

There will be a new hole made.

The tranny is longer compared to the corollas stock 1.1 liter powered monster!!!!!
