73 rx2 scammed
Back in January, I bought 73 RX2 from BLACKrotor92. I drove from Maryland down to South Carolina with a trailer, 500 miles. I talked to to BLACKrotor92 several times, asking about the car. Does it RUN, and he replied, yes it does. So when I went to buy and pick the car up, I said " Let me hear it run " so he proceeded to start the car, It ran for 10 sec. and stalled. He reassured me as well as his brother and father that the car was out of gas. So I went on my way, drug the car back home. It is really cold here in Maryland in January, So I threw some gas in it, tried to start it, it ran for 10 sec. and stalled. I would have to wait till warmer weather to mess with it. I contacted BLACKrotor92 about the problem, he said I have no idea. Now let me point out that he was selling the car listed as a bridgeport 12A rebuilt with less than a thousand miles on the motor. So anyway, I thinking it's a fuel problem, so I take the Nikki carb. and stock manifold off and put the Racing Beat manifold (which was cracked and I had to get it welded) and Holley 600 4 barrel. So I get the car to run, as long as it was above 3000 rpm, as soon as it got to operating temp. the over flow starts shooting coolant everywhere and I shut it down. So here is the kicker, I check the oil after this and the oil is fuel of coolant. So please write in and tell me what you think. Was I scammed ? Does the not running below 3000 rpm have anything to do with the coolant seal ? Would the oil not be mixed with coolant till the thermostat opens ? This really ***** my plans on cruising around this spring

Well your right. The fact that he was on the forum for along time, posting the work on the car and after driving 10 hours on a shoe string budget and wanting another RX2 for as long as he's been alive (16 years) I made the mistake of taking his word. Witch I still believe means something for most people.

That sucks, sorry to hear. Yeah, you're going to have to rebuild, or at least take the motor apart and see what is going on. Who knows what could be inside. They may have just pinched or rolled one of the water seals. Do yourself a favor if you don't already know how to rebuild a rotary engine and get the dvd and learn how to rebuild the motor and do it yourself. They are actually the easiest motor to rebuild out of all the 4,6,8,12 and diesel engines that I have rebuilt.
When I took my motor apart that was in my rx2, the previous owner or whoever put the motor together had an incorrect counterbalancer and flywheel for the rotors that were in the engine. Also all the corner springs were collapsed.

What did you pay for it?? Throw up some pics, let see if you got a good deal or not.
In some cases, even though the car is not what you expected, the low purchase price makes up for everything. Old school rotarys ain't cheap no more, so take that into consideration

Well all i'm saying is, you said the car ran. There is no way you drove the car. It would not run for more than 10 seconds with the stock carb. You told me it was out of gas. it would only run with the Holley at 3000 rpm or above and like ****. The timing is screwed up, the Distributor springs have not been cut, the vacuum advance was still hooked up. The overflow cap and radiator cap were on backwards All reasons why you could not have driven it the way it was. The impression that you gave, was I could put the key in and drive after the exhaust and brakes were fixed. Not that you ported the engine and had not got the thing to run and didn't know if it was reliable. But what ever, I bought it, it's my problem now. I just don't think you were 100% honest with me. post pictures of the car. Even with a blown motor it still sounds like a fair deal. maybe not the perfect deal of a running car for 2500, but still fair. Unless the car is a roach.

Exactly.... $2500 for a mint Rx2 shell is a good deal.. Add a blown motor and it becomes even better

I know that RX2
Hello
I know that RX2. If its red and a coupe with some fender work done on the driver rear its the car. It was in a Barn for some 20 years plus by the second owner. It had two engines and came out of PA, New Tripolli if its the same car. I had seen it in person. I was going to buy the car this spring and had called him two weeks ago but he told me he sold it. Its a good solid old skool. One of the engines when I saw it was out of the car on the floor which was the original which had blown coolant seals according to the owner. He took it out and put in a more recent model rotary but never got it running right. The only thing wrong was the two engines had diff wiring for the carbs and he had the wires reversed. It could have run easily. But then again I am not sure what the condition of that second motor was in nor which you got with the car. or, even if its the same car.
Again, if its the same what did you pay for it? Its a good solid car to work with.
Regards

i am sorry about your problems most likely you will have to open the motor , i had a verbal agreement with blacktop to buy this car i was going to go down there over the holiday's to pickup the car and was told that they had to go to conn for the holiday weekend and that we had a deal for 2 grand the father also said he would stay so i could pick the car up , i said i didn't want to mess up there holiday's that if he gave me his word that the car would be sold to me when they got back it would be ok ,i would pick it up after the holiday's .I offered him a down payment and he said it wasn't necessary we left it like that. We had a deal for the car a few days later he calls me trying to get more money because he was offered more for the car ,he told me that someone had offered him 500 more then what he had agreed to sell it to me for,I guess that was you ! i still believe in a persons word you just have to know who you are dealing with and if you offered him more money knowing it was sold and drove all those hours to get the car you should have tested the car for more then a few minutes before you handed over the cash for the car . all that being said i still think that car is worth that , but when you sell a car you should be honest most people that drive all that way will likely buy the car anyway

seems to me like you got a good deal, you got a complete car with a somewhat running condition engine, even if its not in top shape you can rebuild, and you got all that for 2500, thats a great deal, not what you signed up for but it is a good deal
