Talking 2ndGen Direct Fire in Rx2

Since I couldn't make it to RotorFest and was fighting with the G/F, I decided to try this swap using this link https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/electrical-easy-2nd-gen-direct-fire-install-20-minutes-398818/ Seems to work pretty good....a little smoother down low with a tad more low end, revs cleanly to 8200RPM.

I'm running a MSD 6AL as well as the 2ndGen coils on the leading....getting a shitload of spark...ask me how I know (ouch like a ****! I almost felt my heart stop!)

Cool thing about using this on the Rx2 is that there is a PERFECT bracket on the driver's side strut tower. THe holes are spaced exactly the same as the coil...just need to drill the coil mount holes out a tiny bit for the bolts. Now I just gotta shorten the leading wires...geez my old 2nd gen ones are long!

BTW...took about 30 min, a few beers, and my old (free) coil.

Hmm, I'm really tempted to try that on my RX-2 but mine has a completely different ignitor from some other car. I believe it drives both coils, will have to double check it tomorrow. Any way you could write up a step by step on what all you did?

Its all in that thread link I posted...the 2ndgen direct fire in 20 minutes thread from the 1st gen archive. Got 2ng gen coil, removed ignitor, rewired ballast resistor to neg. side of coil wire, ran the pos. side OG coil wire to the pos. side on coil. Easy as pie really, and I suck with electrical ****. Driven on it for 2 days, no troubles....sick spark...and it looks slick.

Now to figure out how to run the MSD straight to the dizzy instead of through the J-109 on the leading.

Thanks for the comments Rx7UP!!!! Its actually my daily....still trying to get a 1st gen to do my daily driving.

The dual coil leading set-up will give you more constant spark than using the FC leading coil.

also, for a budget set-up, a dual leading igniter direct fire will work as good as using MSD 6A/AL.

Jaime, this is what you need. If you need help on this, let me know.

aw man, now I'm confused. heh. I wanted to try that direct fire leading setup but don't have the extra coil/ignitor, guess I need to make a run to pick-n-pull.

hey Jamie, I'm sellin a 1st gen., needs a little work but it's cheap.

I don't even bother gutting ignitors anymore. No need when you can file down some male quick disconnects. They never fall out of the connectors on the dizzy. Besides there aren't enough dead ones anymore. (never gut a good ignitor)

Jeff20B: So I can eliminate the ignitor all together and run the wires straight to the little white plug on the dizzy (after removing the ignitor)?

remove stock ignitor
run wires from little white connector to new ignitor(s)
hook to coil(s) following instructions
connect plug wire from (each) coil to (each) spark plug
done
