20b repu

Well i've been driving my newly restored 77 REPU around for about 6 months now. enjoying the crap out of it. if you have not seen it, here is the previous build thread on it

https://www.rx7club.com/old-school-o...1006121/page4/

The original idea was to make it 20B NA. My wallet did not allow me to do it last year but i have now decided to take on the challenge. I will update the thread as i go but i am really taking this thing on blindly. i have searched and searched for 20B REPU's but i find very little on them, I’m sure they are out there, but I haven’t been able to find them. I have found a couple of UTE's in Australia that have turbo 20B's but that about it.

I really have no plans for it other than it will run 3-50mm ITB’s with six 1000 cc injectors. All run by Haltech SP2000. Engine is Bridge Ported built by Kilo Racing, bought it from RulerMark (he went to the Darkside). Other than that…I don’t have any more info.

Here are some pics of the dis-assembly of the old S4 13B NA.

Everything out

Here she is in all its glory….ready to continue living in my friends dad’s first gen, actually its already up and running in the FB

Got a hold of a Turbo II tranny…. Mocked it up into place

Went to mate the engine to the tranny and oh oh…..we have some obstacles in the way!!!!

Took out the trusty saw saw and out went the obstacles

Now that all the obstacles were out of my way I mocked everything up again and found that I needed an additional 4” of room. This means that the existing tranny hole would need to move back 4”. Not what I wanted but there is plenty of room in the cabin to move the whole back 4”. In order to do this I modified the tail shaft of the tranny and modified a new tranny mount. Note, I cannot weld, nor do I pretend to know how to weld so off it goes to a buddy’s shop that does some amazing things!

The S4 original tranny mount was modified to fit the TII Tranny and a new cross member was made

Here is the tail shaft mod….there is a really good video on youtube that was done by one of the members here on how to modify the tail shaft…really informative vid.

While the truck is away at the welders…I was able to send some parts out to the powder coater to get coated

Lastly, some work was done removing the old motor mounts and cleaning up the old cross member. The drag link will most likely stay in its place in lieu of modifying it, I will have the oi pan modified to fit around the drag link.

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks the welder can fabricate the motor mounts. I’m thinking of doing an H-Frame similar to the one for the FD? We’ll see what the next couple of weeks holds.

I will update the thread as I have more progress….for now that is all I have

Not the first. There use to be a 20b repu flatbed running around about 10 years ago in post falls and surrounding areas. Pretty sure his name was Skip.
Awesome build keep it coming!
I have debated on putting the 4 rotor in a repu if I can find a donor thats not rusted to hell.

very interested in this conversion.... I am looking to drop my 20b into my REPU as well

just some food for thought since you've already hacked the cross member out ... I am going to put rack & pinion steering in at the same time. Thinking about using a 240sx (s13) steering rack since its, what i call a "trailing steering system" where the steering linkage sits behind the "axle" like the REPU is... but it would be just as easy to install a 2nd or 3rd gen rack in by flipping the attachment arms at the knuckles

anyhow, cool project

didnt think of that, and as you will see from my post, i have kept the original steering. the way the motor and tranny aligned against the draglink made me change the motor mounts. maybe if i would have sourced some s13 parts i would not have to change motor mounts. anyways...start up a build thread on your truck when you start....always can use a few ideas.

thanks....hopefully bring it up to DGRR but i dont know...the FD is so much fun to drive on those roads that it will be hard to leave the FD at home. Anyways, hopw all is well with the 3. Markaham park meet is November, your more than welcome to come down if your interested.

Made some progress in the last couple of days. Decided not modify the drag link so the oil pan was modified to clear the drag link. It looks a lot closer in the pics than it really is, plus the motor is not in its final resting point. Motor should come up another ½” to ¾”

Due to the drag link, motor mounts and header it was next to impossible to install the motor mounts in the rear of the motor as originally intended (At least I could not figure it out). So I sourced a GSLSE front cover from a good buddy of mine and swapped it out for the 20B cover. The front cover was free as I kidnapped his oil cooler and kept it for ransom.

Only problem with the front cover is that it projects out further than the 20B front cover. It’s a good 1” to 1-1/2” longer. Looks like the front of the oil pan will require modification. Now only thing left to complete is new motor mount brackets in the front and re-install everything. Then I can start exhaust and intake manifolds

great work so far. i really dig the N/A-Bridge-thing. should give this REPU some serious character when all is said and done. can't wait to see it complete.
