20b repu
2 Attachment(s)
Well i've been driving my newly restored 77 REPU around for about 6 months now. enjoying the crap out of it. if you have not seen it, here is the previous build thread on it
https://www.rx7club.com/old-school-o...1006121/page4/ The original idea was to make it 20B NA. My wallet did not allow me to do it last year but i have now decided to take on the challenge. I will update the thread as i go but i am really taking this thing on blindly. i have searched and searched for 20B REPU's but i find very little on them, I’m sure they are out there, but I haven’t been able to find them. I have found a couple of UTE's in Australia that have turbo 20B's but that about it. I really have no plans for it other than it will run 3-50mm ITB’s with six 1000 cc injectors. All run by Haltech SP2000. Engine is Bridge Ported built by Kilo Racing, bought it from RulerMark (he went to the Darkside). Other than that…I don’t have any more info. Here are some pics of the dis-assembly of the old S4 13B NA. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps99c95840.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps2581f7ad.jpg Attachment 661088 Attachment 661089 Everything out http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps17bbb0ec.jpg Here she is in all its glory….ready to continue living in my friends dad’s first gen, actually its already up and running in the FB http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps9db4fec2.jpg |
Got a hold of a Turbo II tranny…. Mocked it up into place
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps02e2c688.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psb14a54ee.jpg Went to mate the engine to the tranny and oh oh…..we have some obstacles in the way!!!!:blush: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psdfa6671e.jpg Took out the trusty saw saw and out went the obstacles:egrin: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psd1be5a07.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psae87e315.jpg Now that all the obstacles were out of my way I mocked everything up again and found that I needed an additional 4” of room. This means that the existing tranny hole would need to move back 4”. Not what I wanted but there is plenty of room in the cabin to move the whole back 4”. In order to do this I modified the tail shaft of the tranny and modified a new tranny mount. Note, I cannot weld, nor do I pretend to know how to weld so off it goes to a buddy’s shop that does some amazing things! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps0244a4da.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps304b461a.jpg |
The S4 original tranny mount was modified to fit the TII Tranny and a new cross member was made
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps2789cb4a.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps973b1e21.jpg Here is the tail shaft mod….there is a really good video on youtube that was done by one of the members here on how to modify the tail shaft…really informative vid. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps30679798.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps0271577a.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psef5af58b.jpg While the truck is away at the welders…I was able to send some parts out to the powder coater to get coated http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps5f4573f1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps524b0f90.jpg |
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps5cd052dc.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psafb5f00e.jpg Lastly, some work was done removing the old motor mounts and cleaning up the old cross member. The drag link will most likely stay in its place in lieu of modifying it, I will have the oi pan modified to fit around the drag link. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks the welder can fabricate the motor mounts. I’m thinking of doing an H-Frame similar to the one for the FD? We’ll see what the next couple of weeks holds. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psc326e126.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps5a4e860d.jpg I will update the thread as I have more progress….for now that is all I have |

well, some progress has been made...not much but we got the trany bolted up and it looks like my measurements were spot on. i have about 1.5" from the water pump pully to the radiator. here are some pics. radiator not in the pics. not that its in place, H Frame will be frabriated and motor mounts built. i will update the thread as i have more....for now enjoy http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps6a29d90f.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...pse91a3917.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps7ad13809.jpg |

Awesome build keep it coming! I have debated on putting the 4 rotor in a repu if I can find a donor thats not rusted to hell. |

Not the first. There use to be a 20b repu flatbed running around about 10 years ago in post falls and surrounding areas. Pretty sure his name was Skip.

Awesome project and glad you liked my video :)

looking good looking good

very interested in this conversion.... I am looking to drop my 20b into my REPU as well
just some food for thought since you've already hacked the cross member out :)... I am going to put rack & pinion steering in at the same time. Thinking about using a 240sx (s13) steering rack since its, what i call a "trailing steering system" where the steering linkage sits behind the "axle" like the REPU is... but it would be just as easy to install a 2nd or 3rd gen rack in by flipping the attachment arms at the knuckles anyhow, cool project :icon_tup: |
Damn Simon...cant wait to see it

Made some progress in the last couple of days. Decided not modify the drag link so the oil pan was modified to clear the drag link. It looks a lot closer in the pics than it really is, plus the motor is not in its final resting point. Motor should come up another ½ to Ύ http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps779375b6.jpg Due to the drag link, motor mounts and header it was next to impossible to install the motor mounts in the rear of the motor as originally intended (At least I could not figure it out). So I sourced a GSLSE front cover from a good buddy of mine and swapped it out for the 20B cover. The front cover was free as I kidnapped his oil cooler and kept it for ransom. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps7d4f8bc7.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps750fc568.jpg Only problem with the front cover is that it projects out further than the 20B front cover. Its a good 1 to 1-1/2 longer. Looks like the front of the oil pan will require modification. Now only thing left to complete is new motor mount brackets in the front and re-install everything. Then I can start exhaust and intake manifolds http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps79bc0f90.jpg |
This is awesome! Sub'd

great work so far. i really dig the N/A-Bridge-thing. should give this REPU some serious character when all is said and done. can't wait to see it complete.

Your a FREAK! Very nice build!!!! I used to own one with a 13B St-port with Weber 48 IDA. I was all over the pavement. I know your going to be all over the block with that 3 rotor with that 4.6 diff. That is SICK!!!!

got a small update to report. The front cross member has been boxed for rigidity and that the new center cross member has also been welded in lieu of having a mechanical connection. I thought the welded connection would be much stronger and not have a chance to come loose with prolonged vibrations. Attachment 659268 Attachment 659269 Attachment 659270 Attachment 659271 |
Looks good man! A Repu will be my next, and most likely last, rotary vehicle until they come out with a new one!

Ok so the motor mounts are done and the motor and tranny are finally secured to the REPU and in their final position. As stated before the oil pan had to be modified. Took a GSLSE oil pan and mated it to the 20B oil pan.

Simon,
I am glad to see the work on the repu and to see a NA 3 rotor going in her like I had planned when I owned it. I was gonna use the automatic trans as I was afraid the T2 trans would not hold the torque. Anyhow I really do miss this truck but again the color, motor, wheels, everything you have done is what I could have done! Maybe one day my dream repu can happen..... If I ever do win the lottery and build one it will be a 4 door cab, white with a 3 rotor. keep up the good work. Attached is some old pics |
hell yeah! can't wait for it to be done
|
Cool build!
Nice choice of engine.:icon_tup::gwink: |

What rims are those?

Some progress to report…not much progress but some. Hopefully next week, I can get the truck back, mock everything up and send out the parts to power coating. Had a 3 to one collector made for the exhaust. Due to the REPU crossmember I thought it would be better to have it made flat rather than the typical stacked collectors.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psb7fdd696.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psf24e2699.jpg Also made some progress on the intake manifold. The ITB’s will sit at approximately 30 degree angle. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps457dfd8b.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps9c62a8ac.jpg As I have more progress I will update the thread, for now this is all I have. |

I am super interested to see how the sideport N/A 20b does with ITB's. Would love to build a street friendly NA 20b one day.

Intake is complete and mocked up. Radiator supports complete. Monday will begin the header fabrication.

Header is done all the way to the collector. Came out better than expected. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Exhaust should be done today. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psa2f301ec.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps33533693.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps3c187c39.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps71c646f4.jpg |
Wow. What material is the header made from?
|
Looking real nice Simon, can't wait to hear the sound of that BP 20B
