Followed you over from the REPU forum. Awesome build! I just bought a 74 REPU and I'm looking to make it my winter machine/bike transporter. Few questions, did you happen to say but what are your specs on your BBS' and what model is that Brake Master Cylinder, just for my records. Also, Any thoughts on Rack and pinion conversion, the forum does not have much detail on the subject.
I'm sure i'll have a ton more questions in the near future. |

I'm sure i'll have a ton more questions in the near future. REAR 17x10.0 ET -12 (Negative 12 offset) Brake Master Cylinder is Wilwod WIL-260-8556P - Sumit Racing or Jegs sells them Never had issues with my steering and therefore never considered the conversion. any other questions are welcome. this is the reason why i started the thread...so people can get ideas of what to do and what not to do to their REPU. Header is done all the way to the collector. Came out better than expected. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psa2f301ec.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps33533693.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps3c187c39.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps71c646f4.jpg Exhaust is also done http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psa7459feb.jpg |
Also got some work done over the weekend on her. Got a list of all the fuel lines and fittings required and also mocked up the coils. Coil mounting bracket will require modification

Very cool thanks! Few more questions that i didnt happen to see, Suspension mods other than the bushings/sways endlinks etc., I assume lowering blocks and brads coilovers? It doesn't look like you rolled your fenders either, is that correct? I'm looking to do a fairly aggressive pull.
I bought sodrifters REPU fyi, i saw he posted it on here too. Also, details on the interior, i.e. carpet. I apologize if you listed it before, My forum search skills has really tailed off... -Thanks again. |

I apologize if you listed it before, My forum search skills has really tailed off... -Thanks again. Carpet is stock. in really good condition. Floor mats were ordered thru LMC Carpet and modified by me with a simple patch that was ordered from E-Bay Hope that answers your questions,,.,...any more feel free to ask. |
Damn Simon, I go away from the forums for a few months and now find this! I absolutely love it. Combines the awesomeness of driving a REPU with my favorite motor. That sucker is going to fly, probably literally off the ground given the lightness of the REPU :)
Major props to you my friend. Going to bring this up to DGRR? |
seriosly awesome!

Man I can honestly say I have not done much to the truck. I had so much free time during Dec and Jan and chose to lay on my ass and do nothing. I have been inspired the last week or so and thought I would post and update. I know it doesn’t look like much but I am starting to see the finish line, very vaguely, but I am starting to see it nonetheless. Previous coils and coil bracket did not work out so I had to ditch that thought. Fabricated a new coil bracket and got new coils. Friend of mine told me the MSD coils that I had would not work with my computer. Did some reading and found out he is right and proceeded the get new ones. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psdcaa91ae.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps6a407f25.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps0ae834d7.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psc5357be1.jpg |
Also got the fuel system done and started to wire the engine bay. Running 6 EV14’s 1000 CC injectors. Did I mention how much I hate wiring?

Nice coils, looks like she will be running pretty soon brap brap brap.
Did you get nylon braided sleeves for the harness? |

Some more work to report. removed the engine and everything is out to get powder coated, heat coated and chromed. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps890ae5da.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psb69b42e6.jpg Got the cross members sanded and painted. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps699cac0d.jpg Installed the coil bracket and coils. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psdf633fbb.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps164b55bb.jpg |
Got some wiring done, using black nylon braided wire wrap. First time using this stuff and it really makes for a clean install.

Got some work done over the weekend. I know it doesn’t look like much but I feel like a accomplished something. I got the bosch 044 pump installed with filter, return and feed lines. Also connected all wiring to the pump. Got the tranny tail shaft installed and sealed. Installed the water pump housing, water pump. Also, got some more wiring done but that is on hold until my new tool arrives tomorrow. Anyways, took some pics of the motor as it sits right now. I have to send the LIM out to coating as the inside face of the manifold looks like crap. Outside face is sexy that is why I took a picture of it. ahahahahahah anyways enjoy the pics. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...pse7956627.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psc6654132.jpg |
Very nice Simon! Now hurry up and get it running and put video up! Lol

Something is missing from that exhaust :(

Manifold looks a lot better the second time around. Got the throttle bodies fully assembled. Fuel rails installed. Also, got some wiring done on the coils. What a pain in the ass!!!! Got all the injector clips pinned, AIT, Water Temp. Now all I have is to wire up the CAS. Does anyone know what I am supposed to do with the bare wire that is in the shielded cable for the haltech flying lead harness? Do I ground this wire or just leave it be? http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps53866757.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psaa38a963.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps9a4ab5ee.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps1a3ed6fd.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps15531a99.jpg |

Here is what the wires inside the shielded cable look like. What do I do with the bare wire that is in the there? Do I just wrap it around the other wires or does this get grounded? http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps6b80bfe7.jpg |
That wire should be grounded via where it goes into the ecu itself (you shouldn't have to make your own ground).
Then on the actual sensor side it just stays in the insulation of the wire and doesn't connect to a pin on the plug. I don't have a haltech, but that is also how my coil wires to the ECU are shielded. |

it’s been a little more than 6 months and I have finally hit one of my milestones of the build. Yesterday I pressurized the fuel system and everything is leak free! It wasn’t without a lot of trouble shooting. First I could not figure out why my fuel pump was not turning on? Started at the pump and found no power. Checked the fuse and I had power. Something between the fuse and the pump was shorting….what I didn’t remember is that the pump runs from a hidden kill switch!!!! That took about an hour of troubleshooting. Once I turned on the switch, the pump pressurized and I had pressure. After a brief inspection I find a leak coming out of the top of the fuel tank….dropped the fuel tank and found the return hose to be broken. That fixed and pressurized the system and hoary!!! No leaks! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...psb82d59cc.jpg Also installed the oil cooler and oil cooler lines. Installed radiator and fan. Went to install the starter and found that Autozone had ordered me the wrong one! Back to the drawing board on that one. Just waiting on my spark plugs, an injector clip and my MSD wires to arrive, all of which should be by the end of the week. Lastly, I didn’t like how the velocity stacks came out. The inside was not polished. I decided to have the inside anodized in blue like the pulleys and leave the outside chrome….lets wee what that looks like????? In the meantime, this is how I left the engine last night. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54...ps55f88cc7.jpg |
That one bad a$$ REPU!
Can't wait to see it in person. Good job bro! . |
Just love this build. Quality work. Let's go for a ride :)

Question about your radiator overflow can. Does it have the ability to suck coolant back up or does it just dump it to the overflow tank?

Damn Simon, you aren't messing around. That sounds great! Gotta get a ride in it at DGRR. Very slim chance mine will be done in time so it looks like I will be rocking the father-in-law's BMW Z4.

Goddamn! Thats amazing!

6 Attachment(s)
Finished up some things over the weekend. Got the rear end cover on and had a one piece driveshaft made and installed. Also, filled up the tranny, installed short shifter and filled up the rear end with fluid.
Attachment 648288 Attachment 648289 Also re-wired the fans. I had a fan controller and I think it was on its way out. Since I now have the option of running the fans from the computer I ran them from the computer. Here is what they look like installed. Attachment 648290 Lastly installed the throttle cable, cleaned up some misc wires. Here are some pics over all. Hopefully next week take it to the tuners to get a good base map installed and start putting some miles on her. Attachment 648291 Attachment 648292 Attachment 648293 |
Looking real nice Simon, I'm jealous.
Let me know when you get ready to go to the tuner. |

After I sell my FD, now with 41K original miles, I will have to look and find another repu to build its twin. Keep up the awesome job Simon. |
