Where did you get the flares from? I saw a bunch on ebay from Thailand that looked like those. I might have to pick up a set.

Many years ago I got a R-100 from this chap and more recently my FB.
Your car was in his yard at this time but in a different color. He has a lot more early mazdas and an abundance of parts. If you needed anything I know he could help you out. Nice to see the work your are doing on the car, looking good. Here are a few pics from before. If you look closely

you can see other projects on the go.

Yup, that ^ does look like the same car, and the guy I bought it from did mention having a REPU and some other old mazda stuff. Wish he would have mentioned the mint looking RX4, then I would have saved myself the time of restoring this one LOL.

^ he called me yesterday to tell me he didn't like the fender flares. I don't like the rust in the wheel arches and like deep dish wheels. I think they are staying but we'll see how they look on first.

I also did a thing:

This one was rotten, cut it out and welded a 1/8th inch sheet metal in, That should never rust through.

Thanks for the support. The work is being done by two guys who picked up a welder for the first time last month, neither of us have any training or experience in the field. I am a dentist and he is a general labourer, so all things considered I am happy with how this is going. Just a lot of hard work and determination, trial and error style.

I'm thinking about using POR15 for some areas on my FB that were rusty due to a leaky master. I've removed the rust but wondering if POR15 itself is a topcoat, or are you planning on using a POR15 brand topcoat?

I've been researching if I can paint over POR15 with single stage paint in the engine bay, but I've found mixed reviews. Whats your plan for painting the engine bay?

BTW, nice car!

I've topcoated POR-15 with several different brands of spray bomb. The trick is to get the first coat on there before the POR-15 is cured. So just after you don't detect any major finger drag and the POR-15 feels solid. If it has cured, then you need to sand it out to roughen up the surface and use an appropriate primer. They sell a "Tie-Coat" Primer which is designed to bond to POR-15. Have some, have not used it yet.

POR-15 as a top coat is fine as long as it is not exposed to UV. UV will turn it grey, but won't effect the strength of the paint.

I was just going to scuff it and hit it with a 2k primer and then base/ clear. The label says you can paint over Por15 with anything, nit sure if that is true.

Ive been a little busy with the race car. Did a full colour change. Looking to get back to the rx4 this week.

Yes, Body work is still not 100% done.

Front suspension is now coilovers and camber plates. 20B mounts are made, Turbo II trans has been shortened, rear end has S2000 LSD / Miata ring gear/ FB carrier and redrilled RX4 rear end housing.

Haltec is sitting here. Compression tested the 20B and were no getting good numbers on the front and rear rotors. Took it apart and it was completely intact, just carboned the seals stiff. It is getting rebuilt and streetported.
