I thought you were running drag radials. What do your dad and brother think about it?

What gear box are you using with that? An FD gear box? I'm just interested as I am using a 4.672 diff with an FD gear box and with that I'm hoping to be able to get into 4th gear up the strip well before the 1/4 line. As I noticed you got into 4th.

Car sounds really good too, are you using any kind of muffling/silencing?

S4 TII trans. No muffler in these videos. On the street it runs a Burns SS Muffler which actually quiets it down quite a bit.

You need something in the low 5's I reckon gear wise. Should be maxing out in 4th at least across the line with the s4 box.

13brenova 02-26-12 03:40 PM

I never thought about it before, but when I went with all heim joints vs the typical poly bushing in the rear, it made the rear suspension able to flex like a rock crawler! I need the throw this thing on an RTI ramp! I swapped the rear 150 lb/in springs with 170 lb/in and have an OEM style Chris Alston's 3/4" solid sway bar on the way. Should straighten out the launch a bit and keep it from pulling the front left tire so damn much. It's neat for the videos, but isn't helping the 60' times and makes the thing a bitch to drive. Double adjustable shocks in the front ought to help that too.

Did a once-over of the car and the only thing I was was that the oil pan hit the track when it came down from almost eating the wall. Glad I went with 3/16" aluminum on that. It just put a little scratch on it. Double adjustable shocks in the front ought to let me slow down the compression so it doesn't happen again and keep it from bouncing and more stable on the top end.

The car was intended to be primarily a street car, but I had so much fun at the track, I've decided to throw in a 6pt chrome moly roll bar with door swing outs. Should only add about 50 lbs to the car. I'll run a little less gas in the tank and meth/water resevoir to compensate........and go on a diet! That way, I can run at Baytown without having to rent Hennessey's track......can't afford to do that too many more times!

But before that we'll take the car to the dyno, up the boost to 26-27psi and get a tiny bit more agressive on the tune so we can shoot for low 10's and 130+ mph traps next time.

13B-RX3 02-26-12 03:56 PM

Nice Nick, i can't wait till your next track day! You need to throw up some pics on the YB thread.

13brenova 03-14-12 08:32 PM

Well, we're taking things to the next level. Today I ordered an 8 pt chrome moly roll bar from S&W and some 3" 5 pt seat belts. I'm also swapping the rear axle studs for longer ones that will meet NHRA requirements when running the slicks. Only thing the track officials could have a problem with is the battery location under the dash. Hopefully the guys at the track will let it slide on test and tune nights.....

Not long and it'll be time to turn up the boost and run it until something breaks!!

Made some progress on the roll bar over the last couple of weekends. The Nova is a unibody, like an rx7. So, I had to make the reinforcing plates for the cage to sit on. The main hoop and door bar plates are mostly on the rocker panels and the rears are directly over the framrails.

All the fab is done for the sway bar. No pics yet because I still have the axle out.

Hey, I'm just curious as to where you got your AN adapters from your turbo lines into the front housing? I had to fab up something with the stock lines that I think may have caused me some turbo issues.

sonnytalfred 06-09-12 11:31 PM

hi when u are going to baytown let me know. i am normaly the only 1st gen rx7 out there. running with the big dog every friday night

Looks badass Nick! Now get that beast back out to the track!

13brenova 09-16-12 09:28 AM

Haven't updated in a while...... I swapped the 4.30 gears for 4.56s to help with the launch and to raise the RPMs at the finish line a bit. I also switched the turbine housing from a 1.15 to a 1.28 A/R. This resulted in a big reduction in EGT and had a negligable effect on spool. No data to confirm it yet, but there had to be a considerable increase in horsepower at the top of the curve given that kind of reduction in EGT.

Yesterday, I cranked the boost up to 25 psi and everything is holding up great. The thing is a freaking A....NI....MAL with that much boost!

In the process of moving to Ft. Worth, so hopefully in a couple of months, we'll get this thing back on the dyno and off to the races.

Super clean car!

This thing looks insane! I cant wait for videos and dyno sheets!
