I was woundering if it is possable to put a rotary engine in my MR2, and if it is I would also like to put turbo's. Is it possable to get 500 HP how many miles will the engine last?

My angle is.
If your asking in here if it can be done, it probably means you do not have the equipment to figure it out / do it yourself, and having it done would cost quite a bit of $
If you really wanted to do it, i would say to try to run a porsh or corvair rear end, hack out the trunk, and make up custom engine / tranny mounts. 500hp is doable on a rotary, but not cheap, maitnence is high etc etc.
my advice is to look for a different engine to swap in. Why not build up the mr2 v6? i just saw yet another strettfire vid of a highpower mr2, i think this one said 700ish

diesel engine in a gokart is just way to easy. I also watched a rotory MR2 build up go into a major failure. The best bet would be a 20v swap. Bolts to the stock mounts and transaxle. and I have seen power made in the upwards of 550hp. They are cheap enought o attain like 900$ the last lime I checked and the swap is basically the same wiring as dropping one in a AE*^.
Go here to find more info about the 20v swap and search for the rotory swap.
www.club4ag.com the site is down right now for routine maintaincejust so you know.

It has only rarely been done to put a rotory engine on a FWD transmission. I have only seen one picture of a running car. (Fiat X1/9 in Grassrootsmotorsports October 2001) I have seen pictures of 2 work in progress cars in New Zealand. I don't know if they ever actually ran.
Never in an MR2.
It is difficult enough to get the exhaust ports to clear the halfshafts. It's unlikely to get a turbo to fit there.
But it has been discussed here and on the MR2 board.

As far as I can see there are only a few reasons to do a rotary FWD combination.
1 - It's just so unusual that it's cool.
2 - It's more compact than a piston engine.
I don't think you get any more HP per pound.
You certainly don't get more HP per MPG.
And you don't get more HP per $$.
I might never do it to an MR2 but a mid engined rotary in a tiny car would be very cool. 170 to 200HP in a tiny package might be worth it.

The biggest obstacle is the port layout. The guy with the rotary X1/9 had to rotate the engine rearward, make a custom oil pan and oil pump pickup, cut away part of the rear frame, modify the firewall, turn the engine at an angle to the car's centerline (this is hard on CV joints) make his own bellhousing adapter, build a custom starter using an old Corvair starter rewound to run backwards, build custom shift linkage, you get the picture.
If I was gonna go through all that trouble, I'd go find a Camry V6/5 speed and swap that.

mr2's use a front wheel drive lay out. Why wast the money when you can get a 1gen mr2 and swap in a 3s from a turbo 2gen mr2. Stock they run in the 12s with this setup. Thats what im currently doing. yes there have been northstar engine swaps in mr2. Ive even seen mr2s with h22 honda motor swaps.

MR2s are not Front Wheel Drive. They run a Rear Wheel Drive configuration. I know that the Camry swap is a common one when people are going for the big numbers in those cars.

RX7up, I believe what alex_the_hipple was implying is that the MR2 is a FWD setup.
We all know it's a RWD car.
It's actually very similar to the AE92 Corrolla (1988-1992 Corolla GTS, recognizable by the side skirts similar to an MKI MR2). Lots of parts are carried over.
Basically they just take the drivetrain setup from the front, and place it where the rear seats would be.

Your kidding me. ALL MR2s are RWD. Toyota has never produced a FWD MR2.
anyways, id like to see someone pull off a MRX7 or MRR2. Rotary engines are my second favorite engines behind Nissans RB26DETT. My MR2 would be so beast to have 13b rotary. not to mention the publicity I would get for having a Rotary instead of a 5SFE or 3SGTE in there

not to dig up an old thread, but it is a FWD setup just hybrid designed for the rear. The car is more or less an aggressive camry. I love my Mr2 and thought this would be a cool swap, however given proven swaps like the twin turbo V6 by wtf auto and lots of big hp 4cy, there's really no point aside from exclusivity.
