13b 4 port question
I pulled this motor with the carb, intake, old school long header, from a RX4.
The 13b turns over well and looks to have all the apex seals in tact with good compression sounds when turning buy hand.
My question is how do I tell the year of this motor since I don't know if it was the stock motor out of the rx4.
Thanks

Is this a lame way of saying that the mazda dealer can tell me?
I know the motor says Mazda! All 20+ rotary motors I have owned said that.
Thanks for the help!

Couldent it also be a 76-78 13B 4 port?
What Robert means is that you can tell if it is an old engine by looking at the inprint on the rotor housings! If it spells Mazda in the same way as to day, then its most certainly a newer engine, but if the letters are written somewhat different than todays brand, then its old school!

The older ones have the "MAZDA" really tall and the engine designation up on the top, like this '74:

The newer ones have a much shorter "MAZDA" -- in the current logotype style -- and the engine designation right there above it, like on these 20B housings:
